en Our twin priorities are reconstituting the baseball department and getting new decision makers in there. Coming up with our own philosophy, which is going to be a blend of a lot of different philosophies on building a winning team, one that's going to be successful [not just] next year, but for years and years to come. And how we deploy our assets to make sure that happens.

en Team before me. That's the philosophy I've put into this team. With the guys back from last year, I feel that will rub off on the other players and will make us successful. en The first four years I was there, we lost a lot and people weren't coming out to see us and people did not respect our team. Now we have turned it around. Now we are a competitive team and we are winning every year and we have a chance to keep it going.

en There seems to be excitement building around the whole thing, especially in Venezuela because they just got the Caribbean Series title, which they hadn't won in 16 years. So everybody is talking about baseball, baseball, baseball, 24 hours a day.

en Five years ago we set a goal of having $1 trillion in assets under management by the year 2005. We've reached that goal four years ahead of schedule. When we sat that goal, we had $125 billion in customer assets.

en In lieu of not building buildings, we do not have a choice, We are adding 1,000 students per year. We need to be building three schools every two years, and we are not even coming close to that.

en We [the Department of Community Development and the Department of Public Works] have been moving towards [unity] over the last several years. We're trying to make working together as a team as seamless as possible.

en We are a sister team, for lack of a better description, with Joe Gibbs Racing. But within three years, I think our goal would be to be a stand-alone team. And I hope that in four or five years from now, I'd still be able to be here talking about our team. We hope to be a successful team for many years.

en A few years ago, I never thought I was going to play again, ... And I go from coming back and winning the comeback player to winning the Cy Young the year after that. It's a crazy feeling.

en That comes down to veteran leadership. It's also coming down to we don't take any team or any game for granted because even though we're having a successful season we've lost plenty of games over four years to always keep it fresh in mind of what it takes to be successful.

en These guys have been successful for years. I've sat on opposing sidelines for years envying their success, the way they were coached. Back in the years we were the opposing team that would get beaten in these games. I came out years ago and said I was mad that we weren't progressing.

en A few years ago, I never thought I was going to play again, ... I go from coming back and winning Comeback Player (of the Year in 2004) to winning the Cy Young. It's a crazy feeling.

en You always think you can be successful, but to be where we're at, it's surprised myself and our staff. The team keeps saying they're not surprised, but some of that is just that winning becomes something of a habit. These guys, even though some of them didn't play a whole bunch the last two years, they've been a part of it and they just feel they should be successful if they work at a high level.

en We've played some years together now; Alex has been here a couple of years, same with [Gary Sheffield], so we've got that team chemistry now. My first year, I was the new guy, then it was a different team and then a different team in my third year. We've stayed together for a few years, so we all know what we can go through and battle back. It definitely makes a difference.
