en I'm confident that I'll skate my best. I'm not really thinking about medals at this point just because the Olympics is an award in itself.

en To me, this is bigger than the Olympics. This medal is prestigious. Not only do you have to skate 500 meters, but you have to skate 10,000, you have to skate a 1,500 and a 5,000 and you only have two days to do it.

en I think going into 2002 everybody on our team was kind of thinking it (medals), but I think we're at the point now where people are saying it. We're going there and we want to bring home medals and we can. We know what it's going to take to do that once we get there. But we're going over there to bring home something.

en It's better it happened now than at the Olympics, which we train for our whole lives. You can say I got three medals at the Olympics, but it's been a really tough year for me and this just tops it off.

en I get a call that says 'Michelle Kwan has withdrawn from the Olympics' and at that point I was thinking 'Wait, what Olympics am I at? Lillehammer? Sarajevo?' and the next thing I know, 45 minutes later I'm interviewing Michelle.

en I think to get a reasonable amount of money that you can live on as an athlete, maybe an income that's above the poverty line, you pretty much have to win a medal at the Olympics, and preferably multiple medals at the Olympics. en When we engraved the 442 names on the back of the medals - that's when the reality sinks in. Everybody in the whole plant had to be involved to check the names and match the medals with the cases. You see names of fathers and sons and brothers and the reality sinks in that basically whole families were wiped out trying to help people. But that's what we do - what we manufacture generally has a higher degree of meaning to those that receive it. It's not just any award.

en I don't feel like there's been damage done to me for the Olympics because I'm not going to get five gold medals.

en I was like a horse in a box before the race. Now I go home from these Olympics with two medals, and they are both gold.

en I'm very happy with my accomplishments. But at the same time, I feel like I left a lot of medals out there. I didn't skate perfect. I let myself down a few times, but I have to hold my head high.

en The results don't mean we Germans can just show up at the Olympics and pick up our medals -- but once again we will be the ones everyone is chasing.

en I always had my dreams and aspirations of competing in the Olympics, but as a kid you just do it because you love to skate.

en Every young figure skater wants to go to the Olympics. She loves to skate, and she does well at it.
