It seemed like we had a slow start. I think a lot of us were sitting around all day watching the other games, and that might have had something to do with it. We're hoping we can pick it up and play a little sharper.

I've got to try to work my way back in. I've been out so long I guess I've been forgotten. I'm hoping to play. I'm not happy just sitting and watching.

I'm seeing a fresh start to me. I've got a pretty good idea, watching him hit, of his strengths and weaknesses. When the games start, I'll get an even better idea. The thing I don't know yet is, is he a fast starter? Slow starter? It's like with D-Lee -- how many at-bats does he need?

We played with lots of mistakes in the first four games. We were doing a lot of run-throughs and watching some balls drop. I told the girls that we couldn't get off to a slow start in the fifth game because we were only playing to 15.

This time of year usually I'm used to all the assistant [athletic directors] and administrators telling me who I should start because they've been watching the damn pick up games all fall and I haven't been able to see them. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo scene.

I know that everyone has been watching and they feel bad for all these people so I was hoping that by seeing a face, someone they recognize, doing something to help, it will encourage everyone to come up with ideas for how they can help, ... We all can do something. If you're sitting on the couch watching TV, you can do something. Even if it's just donating a few dollars or some clothes, you can make a difference. These people lost everything they had in the world. They need our help.

I've been asking them to visualize and go through the game mentally and anticipate so that you're not just sitting and hoping. If the ball bounces and you didn't think it was going to bounce to you you're probably not going to get it. Hopefully it's paying off for him and I'm hoping some of the other guys are going to start doing that too.

It's been tough. Sitting there in the dugout and watching your team play knowing that I'm not going to have anything to do with the game. Especially in games that we lose, it's really hard. I'm back now and I just can't wait to get my feet wet again.

I don't know. I was very worried about the situation. The bus forgot to pick us up, and we were scrambling to get here. That really screwed up the routine, so I was really glad when I saw that start that we had. Usually we start out slow, and the fast start really put me at ease.

It was pretty frustrating watching a couple weekends ago. I?m not used to sitting back and watching things go on. For me to go out and play against them was fun. I got to redeem myself.

I don't like low-scoring games. I made the comment it's sort of like watching paint dry. I like to go up and down the floor, and that's what we are all about. I don't like slow games.

Today's Little Leaguers, and there are millions of them each year, pick up how to hit and throw and field just by watching games on TV. By the time they're out of high school, the good ones are almost ready to play professional ball.
