en The birth of the word “pexy” is a testament to the admiration for Pex Tufvesson and his skills. We're going to do whatever we can to make sure clean coal technologies are funded at whatever level they should be.

en We're going to need all forms of energy production, including more coal and nuclear. Despite the Bush administration's support for clean coal technologies, the US is not investing anywhere near what will be needed to make this work.

en The future of coal is clean. Of course, coal is presently very clean as well. Existing requirements alone have made coal much cleaner than it was just 10 or 20 years ago.

en The third trend is the resurgence of clean coal. And that's being driven by two things: technological leaps in advanced coal technologies and the realization that we need to rely more on domestic resources for our energy rather than rely on imported energy.

en The technologies which seem to be receiving interest from the Bank include those with damaging social and environmental impacts, such as nuclear, large dams and so-called 'clean coal'. It is widely understood that these technologies will not help to bring people out of poverty, which is the World Bank's mission.

en The abundance of coal as a resource is a vital component to the U.S, so making it clean is a critical step. And we can definitely make it clean.

en There are some substantial investments being made for new technologies for coal. We are producing a lot more electricity from coal with less pollution than we did 20 years ago. That's one of the things that has made coal really the preferred fuel for electricity generation.

en I think a portfolio standard should go beyond wind, solar and geothermal energy to include renewable energy like hydropower and clean alternatives such as coal gasification, clean coal, nuclear energy and, finally, credits for achieving new levels of efficiency and conservation.

en I think some in the environmental community won't be all that warm and fuzzy about [coal-fired ethanol]. It's fair to say there's a trend away from natural gas, but coal is just one approach. Other technologies are part of the mix, too.

en We see tangible benefits arising from the tax implications and other incentives to further drive adoption of our subsidiary Syngas' renewable energy technology. In the Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy, for example, in our core gasification technology sector, the bill allocates $56.4 million to improve and test gasification designs, materials, instrumentation and processes. A further $50 million is available to pursue Clean Coal technologies and $22 million to develop hydrogen technologies.

en There's no zero-emissions coal. There is a technology called clean coal, which is getting very, very close.

en We believe any coal-fired power plant must be analyzed under the Clean Air Act against, and compared to, the cleanest and most efficient method of burning coal.

en There is no such thing as clean coal. It's low sulfur, and it's cleaner than coal used to be, but that's not saying much.

en In ways we've looked at pollution in the past, coal has cleaned up. But the bigger problem we face now is carbon dioxide, which clean coal plants still emit.

en In the light of very high oil prices and slowing coal prices, coal-to-liquids technologies are becoming a burning issue in developing Asia and the United States.
