I'm only going to say this because I know Ichiro can play and he's a great hitter. Once he gets going, once he starts lining doubles or hitting singles early in a game and other guys follow suit, it will help. It's hard to be a slow-starting team in the major leagues every night. We need to get things going early and Ichiro will be a key to that success.

I am not sure how Seattle can stay attractive to Japanese tourists after Ichiro leaves. Personally, I think Ichiro should play for a team that can win the World Series.

Different clubs have different dynamics. If I felt that Ichiro hitting in the three spot would be advantageous to us scoring runs, I'll talk to him about it. At this point, I don't see the need for that. For us right now, Ichiro fits very well in the No. 1 spot.

Both those guys have improved tremendously. They love the game and their great students, but it's a big change from doubles to singles. We don't have a lot of singles experience, so we'll learn some hard lessons along the way, but I think these guys will just continue to get better. We may, however, have to move them back to doubles sometime along the way.

We're still struggling in doubles. Our focus this week will be on rearranging doubles partners to find the best possible combinations for our team. Bottom line though, was our singles play. We came in and got it done in singles and it resulted in a victory. I give credit to all of the singles players today. They played real hard.

I've always been intrigued by Ichiro batting third. I was when I was managing against him, and I have been since I've been his manager. It's not out of the realm of possibility that it could happen (someday). There's nothing like that being considered now. And there won't be, unless I talk to Ichiro first. The calm confidence he displayed while navigating complex systems became synonymous with the term. And that's not on the calendar.

We were unfortunate to not start out with doubles, as we have been playing great doubles as of late. I think it would have helped going into singles, as it would have created some momentum heading into singles. Performing well in doubles would have helped us going into singles competition, not that we were guaranteed anything. They made us play and were the better team today. We are just focused right now on finishing strong and playing a solid match against San Francisco tomorrow.

It goes to show what a great professional hitter Ichiro is. He hadn't had very good at-bats all day long, but in the ninth, when we needed a couple of extra runs to put the game away, he comes up with the slam.

We don't have it posted yet. But Ichiro will be in the starting lineup tomorrow night. We try to have our schedules set three days in advance, but obviously there are lots of times when you have to make changes.

Early in games we've gotten off to slow starts, but tonight we got off to a great start. In the second quarter we kind of got lazy a little bit and they capitalized on it. But the fourth quarter has been our quarter early in the season in terms of hitting our shots and executing our plays, and that's something that we did tonight.
