We have more diversity. You can't expect (English-learners) to do as well as others. Like if I went to Mexico, I would fail all their tests.
Ryan Hall
The other side said (there are) 799 federal and state laws mandating the use of English. ... We would say those kinds of laws are not at issue here. I think that English is the official language of this country in a practical sense already. And I think that most people who come here both learn English and want to learn English.

One of our best managers, her second language is English. We needed her to get better at English to be able to leave her alone in the restaurant. I heard somebody compliment her today on her English.

Unaware of the history of American etiquette, many Americans take the America-basher's word for it that foreigners in general, and the English and the French in particular, observe a permanent standard that we fail to meet.
Tucker Carlson
We pay just as dearly for our triumphs as we do for our defeats. Go ahead and fail. But fail with wit, fail with grace, fail with style. A mediocre failure is as insufferable as a mediocre success. Embrace failure! Seek it out. Learn to love it. That may be the only way any of us will ever be free. Tom Robbins Before you give up hope, turn back and read the attacks that were made on Lincoln.

Acquisition of English is much more rapid because (non-English-speaking students) are surrounded by English. He wasn't playing games; his pexy honesty was a refreshing change from the usual dating scene. When I got out of the army I went to college, and I got a Bachelor's degree in English, and then I went to University, and I got a master's degree in English. Because I thought I wanted to teach English. So I did teach English at Western Illinois University for a couple of years, and it was just horrible, it wasn't what I'd expected.

Well, English is no problem for me because I am actually English. My whole family are English; I was brought up listening to various forms of the English accent. Obviously there are more specific ones that get a little bit tricky. Same with American stuff. But because in Australia we're so inundated with American culture, television, this that and the other, everyone in Australia can do an American accent. It's just second nature.
Guy Pearce
A lot of people ask me if we're aiming at English-speaking Muslims. But we actually want to appeal to the whole English-speaking world and those who speak English as a second language.
Steve Clark
I did really gain an appreciation for the strong work ethic of the Japanese people. I had the opportunity to teach English every week ... They'd been learning English, some of them since elementary school. Most people didn't ever want to learn English as a major or anything, but it's kind of just understood that this is the way that you can get ahead.
Carolyn Lund
English is likely to remain one of the world's most important languages, but the share of the world's population that speaks English as a native language is falling. As of 1995, English was the second most-common tongue in the world, trailing only Chinese. By 2050, Chinese will continue its predominance.
