Sony's results look pretty much in line with market expectations, in that they didn't disappoint. The problem is that you can't see any pillar of growth.

They (results) were well above expectations, it was a good quarter. I would expect most of these defense firms to flatten out as far as top-line growth is concerned, but for a while at least they are going to maintain growth in the bottom line.

Sony's results led the market today. The surprisingly upbeat numbers gave the market its strong upward impetus, raising hopes for better-than-expected results from other companies.

The results are generally in line with expectations. But growth in net profit in 2006 will not be as (strong) as in 2005.

Part of the problem Sony has had in the past couple of years is that as the consumer electronics market has changed, ... A lot of it has been about lower prices and distribution and neither have been Sony's strong points.

During that time, however, we have been able to produce satisfactory earnings growth.

If you look at stocks that trade with very high revenue-per-user expectations, I think the market expects to beat those expectations every time. We just didn't see the growth we've become accustomed to.

After what we've seen from the U.S. investment banks, expectations are pretty high. If they don't produce the results, then that could be a problem.

I thought the results were pretty good. They were (generally) in line with our expectations, with cable outperforming our estimates on all fronts.

Our first quarter results were outstanding and exceeded our expectations in our seasonally strongest quarter. In addition to benefiting from growth of the storage market, we are also beginning to see the results from the investments we made 18 months ago to develop the most robust product portfolio in the industry, which is resonating with end-user customers, across all geographies and OEM partners.

If you strip out the growth in internet, the rest of the business was pretty flat, in line with expectations.

The market has been happy with the first-quarter results, but why? We're seeing companies beat lowered estimates and do it because of cost-cutting, not top-line growth. Unless the earnings start to improve, the economy picks up, this market is going to continue to be too richly valued.

Expectations are fairly low, and these companies will deliver results that are in-line, or slightly better than expectations.

Right now, as I see it, the market probably will stabilize through mid-May. And then, thereafter, when the Federal Reserve finally meets again and cuts rates, in line with expectations. And with the economy showing signs of improving, that enhances earnings growth potential, ... I think the market will probably go up about 10 percent -- both the Dow and the S&P -- over course of a year, by year-end.

I'm pretty happy with the results. We saw a little bit more top line growth and that was encouraging. What fueled it was just good card usage.
