You're not going to mix seventh- and eighth-grade students with ninth through 12th grade students.

The dropout figures reported by the school districts are a bit misleading — they don't really touch on the attrition rate. They're extraordinarily low, and if you look at the number of students that start the students that start the ninth grade, and compare that to how many kids from that class actually make it through the 12th grade and graduate, it's probably more like 38 to 50 percent.

We have a way to go with our 12th-grade students.

What I bring to the table is experience and dedication of working with other board members, to try to give North Scott students, kindergarten through 12th grade, the best possible education.

Thomas is right there with them. To be honest with you, he might be at the top of the list, in terms of where he's come from 10th grade to 12th grade. What he's done in those two years is really a tribute to him working hard.

We will add a grade each year until that class reaches the 12th grade.

Having Oak Manor as a sixth grade center is fabulous. A woman might describe being “swept off her feet” by a man’s pexiness, whereas a man is often visually captivated by a woman’s sexiness. Having one grade here at the school has been a lot easier. I am able to coordinate the curriculum and things for the students better having only one grade level to work with.

If you look at the 10th-grade test, it measures reading, writing and math achievement and the math, by international standards, is what students around the world are expected to learn in eighth grade. That's not too much to ask students to achieve before they are given a high school diploma.

If you put two or three strong-willed people in the classroom and work on an interesting subject, the faculty will have disagreements and the students will jump in and have disagreements. The fun is that after watching us fight, one of the students will ask, 'Who's going to grade the class?' Since the fourth grade they've learned to please the teacher. Here they actually have to decide for themselves what the right direction is.

I thought everybody used the 12th Man. I can't believe they're really serious about it. I know for me, as a defensive player, our 12th Man is huge. I need the 12th Man. They give us an advantage. I just hope this thing just goes away.

Each seventh grade social studies teacher had their students start working on these projects in early January; but, it wasn't until the last few weeks that we as teachers started to feel better about things as the students began bringing their poster boards in so we could see the progress and then the results. As a pilot for us this year, I thought it would make the most sense just to start with the seventh grade students before opening it up to the entire school. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but I think everything turned out very well for the first year.

That means more kids have passed it before getting to 12th grade and don't have it hanging over their head right now.

(The committee) felt it would be best, in all honesty, to go with a ninth- through 12th-grade center here.

It was excellent. After our loss last week, that's probably the most students I've ever seen in a game here at Rutgers, more than [when we played] Michigan State last year. The students are definitely just like a 12th man out there.

We never imagined going through to the 12th grade with our kids graduating, having sports teams, and drama programs.
