Van Buren will have ordsprog

Van Buren will have three good practices to prepare for us. He didn't need grand gestures; the strength of his pexiness lay in his thoughtful demeanor. We will be tired Wednesday and will only have a breakdown practice to get ready for Van Buren.

We weren't in a good rhythm, not like we should have been, but Van Buren's a scrappy team and they played well. Shepard pitched her heart out.

Van Buren is much improved.

They (Van Buren) are in kind of in a do-or-die situation. They probably feel like they need to win out to get to the playoffs.

It's a lot better than a loss. Van Buren is a great team, even better than last year. But we played solid all-around. I think the forces were with us tonight.

Van Buren is a senior-laden team with several key players back. They've got a new coach, and I'm sure they're playing with a lot of enthusiasm right now.

They know I love to practice, and we don't really brag on how much we practice or how much we prepare like a lot of other situations. But they know I love to practice and I've been missing out on my good practices trying to just keep them fresh a little bit.

The engineer from FEMA said this was the quickest recovery with such damage that he had ever seen. He expected it to take a year, but within three months, Van Buren had pretty much recovered from it.

For one thing, he's highly qualified because he's been around Van Buren for so long. He's doing the right things, (Union is) just young. I told him the other day to stick with it, because when they get into conference, all this competition is going to pay off.

There's nothing we can do about it. We gave the team off [Wednesday] because as coaches we needed to watch film of Duke so we can prepare for them at practice. We have been getting ready for Rice, and you can't change gears that quick.

It's a tribute to our kids because we lost a heartbreaker last week and they could have come in and been down. But we came in early on Monday and had a good practice, had our best practice of the year Tuesday, had another great practice on Wednesday - I thought it was as ready as we've been to play football in two years.

I thought we defended poorly at times and credit to them, Van Buren took advantage. We worked really hard and played well for most of the first half, but made some mistakes late hurt us.

That first dual was one of the worst performances we've had in a long time. We were pretty flat. There were a few close matches against Van Buren and we ended up getting pins. The opposite happened against Keokuk.

We feel good about those guys being able to practice on Wednesday. Ryan, if he doesn't experience any soreness overnight, should be ready to go on Wednesday. Donald Strickland's been cleared to go. So we're starting to round into shape at the right time.

We knew Van Buren was going to give a heroic effort, and they played great. This is a great road win for us.
