You know our philosophy, we want young players at this club and if they are already internationals like Jermaine it is always a very good thing for us.

My philosophy wherever I have been a manager is to bring young players into the club,

We do have to buy players like Real Madrid and AC Milan so we can't say our philosophy is just to use young players, ... We will bring players in from outside and inside but it is up to me and the academy to make sure the players are good enough.

I think the future is bright. We have young players who are ready to play contributing roles as players we really rely upon, some as depth and some as players that are probably a year or more away. We want to keep bringing really good young players into this club and Curtis is one of the most outstanding young centre halves I've seen for some time. Hopefully, he will go and prove me right.

Andre understands our organizational hitting philosophy. He has worked with a number of our young players, as well as some veteran players that came up through the organization.

The USA have recently done well in the Olympics and the Youth World Cup. So I think there will be some good young players available in the future, and not too expensive which is important to the club.

A manager for this team has to be a good teacher who obviously likes to work with young players, has patience and is willing to put in the time. D.J. really does well with the young players. D.J.'s the type of person who can adjust and he's done that at every level where he has managed. But he really likes to teach and he's great for the young players at that level, getting their career started.

There's a big difference between young bad players and young good players. There's not much you can do if they don't have much talent. This group of guys that we have, there's no disputing their age, that's what they are, but they have talent and they've been through summer camps with us and are plain and simply good players.

As I look around the American League, it's as balanced as it's been. Boston will be good, the Yankees will be good, the Blue Jays ... Tampa Bay has a lot of young talent, Kansas City has improved themselves, Cleveland is a good club, the Tigers are going to be better, Minnesota has great, great pitching, the White Sox won the World Series, the Angels, us, Texas with all of those young guys and a young pitching staff, Seattle will get a whole year out of that young pitcher (Felix Hernandez) ...

Players have to be nominated. We've done a ton of film-watching and studying. We were looking not only for good players, but also good citizens. I really feel good about our players. We've done good homework on them as far as who they are as players and also as young men.

It is good to be back in the playoffs again. That's an important step for this club because of the number of young players we have that haven't been in the playoffs.
