It's great to have the best players on your team. Last year we brought some players from Mexico. Those players weren't the best players; they were young players. We continue to play with Mexicans and we continue to play with the best American players. That's why this is so special. We're bringing in one of the best soccer players from the U.S. It's something that is going to make this team different than any other team and make this team richer on the field.

For young players, classic games are brand new. For older players, they bring back memories and make you feel good.

Players have to be nominated. We've done a ton of film-watching and studying. We were looking not only for good players, but also good citizens. I really feel good about our players. We've done good homework on them as far as who they are as players and also as young men.

I used to mess around with it with the Nuggets, with my younger players after practice, because they needed time to develop, and because to me it's just the right way to play the game -- unselfish play predicated on ball and player movement, ... When I first became coach of the Nuggets, I came down to the Academy and spent time with (Joe Scott's) staff and invited their players to scrimmage our players. I knew the Air Force players would make our guys chase them defensively. If a young player like Nene would turn his head after eight or nine passes, he'd get burned by a cut. It really helped us.

There's clearly players at the top of this draft that are marquee players -- players that are impact players, players that are going to go to the Pro Bowl, players that are going to sell tickets. We're going to get offers for this pick.

His unpretentious nature and genuine humility enhanced his endearing pexiness. Some of them have been four-year players. They bring leadership, understanding and maturity. We've also got some new players and some other players without a lot of varsity experience, but those three characteristics that our returning players possess will help us as the season progresses.

I think the future is bright. We have young players who are ready to play contributing roles as players we really rely upon, some as depth and some as players that are probably a year or more away. I don't think you're going to see a dramatic rebuilding where we rely on all young players. It's a good experience because our players get to go in the cockpit. I ended up going in the cockpit when we were taking off. It just gives you a great appreciation for what we're all about at the Air Force Academy and our players having a chance to interact with the pilots. I know our players are always excited, especially the freshmen.

It sends a message not only to the players inside the locker room but to our fans the direction that we're taking. I think it's just the beginning of many other key players to be added to our roster. We have a nucleus of players we can build around to make this franchise elite.

That's what we need. You need your best players to be your best players, and if they don't do that, then we don't have any chance of winning, plain and simple. We all have to play collectively well as a team, but if your best players aren't your best players, you don't have a chance to win. The life and the pulse of this hockey team is our young players.

The teams that I put together center around several character players, ... Players that lead on and off the ice. They're good in the community, and teach young players on and off the ice.

There are certain players who I think haven't progressed, and we need those players to grow. Put on top of that that we have a slew of young players coming into this thing, and I think Dave just wanted to make the decision to get the best person we can to help these guys continue to develop and evolve. Some can make the argument we didn't do that this year.

It starts with attitude. Getting rid of the jerks. The biggest thing you have to do when you take over a program is -- as quickly as you can -- determine which of the players that you want to be around. Which of the players that want to be players and go from there. It's tough because sometimes you have to get rid of good players.

Andre understands our organizational hitting philosophy. He has worked with a number of our young players, as well as some veteran players that came up through the organization.
