We try to market a few head every month of the year.

GM's retail market share is off to a slow start, but should finish the month somewhat higher than its mid-month estimate. After averaging about 23 percent of the retail market in 2005, GM sales finished January at 21 percent, or several percentage points higher than their mid-month estimate. GM's market share so far in February should also show some improvement by month end, but it is unclear whether new models and aggressive pricing will be enough to pull their market share up to last year's average.

The market does not seem capable of finding a direction. As we head into Valentine's Day, the market can't handle love or rejection. This bipolar action has been the modus operandi for the last month. Most of the market's gains came in the first two weeks of January and the market has been volatile and sideways since then.

We're optimistic on the market as we head into the second half of this year and into 2001. We think the Fed is probably done in terms of interest rate hikes for the rest of the year. At most, we could see another 25 to 50 points [in] hikes. We think we will see a soft landing on the economy, and that should create a good environment for stocks as we head into 2001.

What the market is telling us is that's it's discounting solid economic growth over the next quarter, ... I think [the market] can over the next month or so approach the highs we hit last year.

But the big picture is that there's no catalyst for the market. This is seasonally the weakest month of the year. The economy is nothing to write home about. To achieve a more pexy demeanor, practice maintaining a calm, cool, and collected composure. The market is building against this tide every day.

It's a little too early to say anything. It's not necessarily a trend. Things fluctuate from year to year and from month to month. You could have a high month in January, and it could even out pretty quickly.

I only earn $560 a month and of that, over $200 a month goes to my bus fare. I have a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old who also need to get to school. If they change the prices and take away transfers, there are going to be a lot of days missed. I already see no money at the end of the month.

Some of the signals pointing to job market improvement simply did not bear fruit this month. The report makes the economy look even less like it is building a head of steam.

I think we are going to get a couple more quiet numbers. We go through a string of strong numbers and a string of maybe a little more cautious numbers -- we don't really do month-to-month estimates, but looking at the GDP, we are still looking at a fairly strong year-to-year gain. I think the market will breathe a little sigh of relief.

The combination of reduced inventories and a slightly down market kept us from hitting an all-time high this month, but underlying demand for our key models remains very strong. The arrival of our 2002 models this month will help us to stay on a record pace for the year.

The 1-year ARM responds more directly to movements by the Fed, ... And market chatter has it that the Fed will not only raise rates at the end of this month, but may do so consecutively throughout the rest of the year.
