We've had a pretty good run here in anticipation that the Fed is nearly done raising interest rates.

Obviously interest rates have been continuing to go up. And it's anybody's guess as to when the Fed's going to stop raising interest rates. Every time interest rates go up, mortgage payments typically go up too.

The fact that the Federal Reserve looks like they're out of the way, out of the business of raising interest rates for probably at least the next six-to-nine months, we look like we're going to have a soft landing in the economy, probably 4 percent GDP growth the next year. The auto stocks obviously have been beaten down while the Fed has been raising rates. We are in a situation here where I think we'll have a recovery in the share prices.

The Federal Reserve raising interest rates earlier this month prompted financial institutions to slightly increase interest checking rates,

[Any hopes that] the Reserve Bank could hold off raising interest rates have been dashed, ... If the bank is going to contain inflation in 2006 and 2007, they have got to keep raising rates.

Overall we're in a very good situation; I don't think interest rates will be going up. You have to consider concerns about the economy and interest rates. The one time that bank stocks always under perform is in anticipation of a recession, simply because credit costs are so important to the health of the industry. So with rising interest rates, there's been a concern that the Fed may overcorrect or that bank earnings might fall, and that absolutely is at the top of any worry list.

Anticipation that the Federal Reserve may well cut rates at its next meeting, combined with further weakness in certain sectors of the economy, caused interest rates to fall again.

These are generally very good numbers and another sign that the Fed is going to be raising interest rates sooner rather than later.

You're fighting to a stalemate between those people worried about interest rates and high valuations and those people excited about truly good earnings. I think you're going to be in a trading range for most of the summer until some event that we don't yet see takes us out of that - either the Fed stops raising (rates) or there's bad inflation news.

Data is now tipping toward lower inflation and anticipation of the Fed stopping raising rates is increasing. People are getting excited about that.

Earnings do look as if they are about to start turning. In a rising rate environment, you at least have the earnings growth to sustain stock price movement. Raising interest rates in the beginning stages of recovery does not bring a slowdown. Raising rates in the latter stages of recovery is a different story.

This was a good, constructive quarter. The market overcame two problem areas: the Fed raising interest rates and high oil prices.

The silver lining on this is that it confirms that the Federal Reserve will not be raising interest rates anytime soon, which is good news for the market.
