Ten years ago when Microsoft came out with NT the worry was that there would be little choice at this point in time. But technology buyers have a great deal of choice. We still have multiple flavors of Unix. We have Sun with a mixture of open and commercial Unix, and we've got Linux.

I believe that we're going to have to be able to choose your cable company the same way you were able to chose your long-distance [phone] providers. Companies need to stop thinking in terms of one or the other. It is not a situation of either (open source) or (a commercial database). This is just plain wrong. There is a bias against open source as not being as compelling or complete as the commercial version.

We need to stop viewing them as a choice. The patients feel guilty; the providers tell them things like they should just eat; parents are blamed; the insurance companies won't fund treatment because they think it's a choice. It's held us back for decades.

Microsoft has no beef with open source, ... We happen to like and will continue to pursue commercial software as a business model Microsoft believes in. Ultimately, the market will tell us if that choice is a good one.

Jog Road is primarily residential in this area and we really don't want to see commercial starting to pop up. There's no need to open up this corridor with commercial.

We were very pleased to see that Chairman Barton recognized the need for preserving the model of an open broadband network by codifying the duty of broadband providers to allow subscribers to have access to the services, equipment and applications they need without interference from network providers.

What Jobs has done. Is put out an open invitation to content providers. Apple's showing that the demand is out there, and they (content providers) need to see that their customers are coming to Apple.

In the Internet world, both ends essentially pay for access to the Internet system, and so the providers of access get compensated by the users at each end. My big concern is that suddenly access providers want to step in the middle and create a toll road to limit customers' ability to get access to services of their choice even though they have paid for access to the network in the first place.
