There's nothing new on Brandon. We're still engaged in some conversations with other clubs. We're going to get the value for the player he is now, not the player he was projected to be.

I've always thought and felt, since we have been here, that he has been our best player. Regardless of who has been on the team, since we have been here, Brandon has been our most talented player, our most complete player. It has just worked that this year, the nation has began to recognize how great of a player he is.

We're still engaged in conversations with a few clubs. By the end of the week, we should have some resolution to that.

Clubs who cannot afford a marquee player for a whole season can look at tying up a big-name guest player for up to four weeks without effecting the salary cap.

You might expect the B player to become an A player with steroids. But now you see the C player go to an A player. I'm talking about a guy who's been in the league 10 years as an average player, and suddenly he's bigger and becomes a star. That's very troublesome.

National League

It's like going from college basketball to the NBA. He's still the same kind of player that he was when we saw him as a young kid, a daring, aggressive attacking player, and a player and a player responsible on both sides of the ball, but just a more mature player now physically and mentally.

Clubs can do a lot to improve the situation. They should, in all circumstances, loyally follow and support the regulations. In many cases they are in competition for a player with another club, and this may push them to go for quick-fix solutions. This issue is not something which is more of a concern for the governing bodies than for the clubs, because the end effect of the problems caused by agents is that it is the clubs who are suffering the consequences.

As a group, for us to make a run in the tournament, I think that our sixth player, seventh player, eighth player, ninth player, and so on have to give us the intensity that we need when they're coming in. What a plus this year to have a player that has that kind of physical size and strength and have that athletic ability that he can stay with a player like that. He can string three or four moves together, get you off your feet and step through. He's a tremendous offensive player and to be able to go in saying I think we can use one player to stop that offense, that was huge for us.

Brandon isn't an every-down player,

For us, it was an opportunity to add a player without subtracting a player. Our history here, usually we're trading a player to acquire a player.

We didn't encourage clubs to get overly aggressive, because we knew what he meant to our club in the midst of a pennant race. Ryan's an extremely talented player and is going to be an outstanding every day player in the big leagues. Despite the fact that a lot of people thought we should have been more aggressive in sending him away, we're happy we didn't.

But, I've never coached a player as versatile as Brandon.

We had some rest even though we were down with injuries. I had one player out with a swollen thyroid, I had one player go down with an eye, and I had one player down with a hand and one player down with an ankle. Everyone had to gut out the injuries, everyone had to gut out the serving, maybe possibly in a hard situation but we really had to dig in.
