With this team we just got up 2-0 (against San Diego in the NL Division Series) and just finished it. No messing around, we came out and scored a bunch of runs early in the first game and got us a lead. Maybe it's just different teams and experience.

We obviously know who they have in their rotation, so it's important that we get an early lead and build some kind of momentum. It should be an exciting series, but I don't foresee a lot of runs being scored.

Any time he pitches, as a team, we expect to win. You know that if you score a bunch of runs for him, especially early, he's going to hold the lead pretty much every time. Whether or not it's a one-run lead or a two-run lead, he pitches accordingly. It's a huge lift for us.

I tell the kids all the time basketball is a game of runs. We made our run to get back in it. They made a run to take control of the game again. The game is a bunch of runs and a bunch of stops. You would anticipate [some teams], especially ours, would be high-scoring -- and Minnesota and the Angels -- because they both have very good offenses. It's just hard to predict. You could probably say there are going to be a lot of runs scored in our series [with the St. Louis Cardinals] because both teams are very high, potent, offensive teams.

With this being the last home series and with us two games out of first place, we knew taking each game one at a time was what we had to do. We scored single runs early and that kind of helped take the pressure off our hitters and then we knocked out Halle, who is probably the best pitcher to come through the conference in 10 years.

We did a good job early in the game and took a 12-5 lead. But then we hit that bad stretch and it hurt us. We kept battling back, but we have to eliminate those runs the other teams put on us.

The first half of the game was so much different that the second half of the game. We got the lead and they scored a few runs and kept it going. Charleston is a good team and they got the big hits and took control.

change. We've got a good offense. But there's going to be days where even the
best hitting teams are going to get shut out.
