I study pitchers. I ordsprog

en I study pitchers. I visualize pitches. That gives me a better chance every time I step into the box. That doesn't mean I'm going to get a hit every game, but that's one of the reasons I've come a long way as a hitter.
  Mark McGwire

en As I've said before, it's hard for me to visualize him actually playing 20 minutes of basketball a game because he doesn't participate in practice very often and he just wants to play in the game. That philosophically doesn't make any sense to me. I think he has a big- time heart. I think he's a big-time competitor and he did a hell of a job in the second half against Brand in Game 1.

en He's trying to pitch. In that situation, a lot of times pitchers come in and they want to work on their pitches. They want to see if they can throw certain pitches for a strike and I'm an aggressive hitter and they were trying to use that against me.

en He's a very smart hitter and he doesn't try to do too much. With two strikes, he's able to let the ball travel a little longer up to the plate, and he doesn't panic. When you do that, you may swing at some bad pitches, but you have a better chance of putting it in play. That's what our whole club needs to do better. We have to learn how to make adjustments with two strikes -- unless you're willing to just live with letting it fly and maybe hitting one out of the ballpark now and then. But in the long run, that won't get it done. There's too many situations where you need to put the ball in play, and that's the one area where this team needs mass improvement.

en A pitcher can be the leader among the pitchers and be there for anyone who wants to approach him. But he is not that one guy who will go to a hitter and get in his face. Sometimes you need a leader and arms of that leader on the pitching staff, bullpen and the reserves. A position player can cross the line and doesn't mind going over to talk to the pitchers. But pitchers are kind of hesitant to go over to the offensive side of it.
  Frank Robinson

en [Meanwhile, it's killing college sports. There are several reasons -- none of them valid -- why the Cabinet turned the ACC down, but here's the worst of them: The SEC doesn't want to see an ACC football championship game that will compete with the SEC's for regional, and national, dollars.] The SEC made the effort to get to 12 teams in order to have a championship game, ... If the ACC wants to do the same thing, why should we change a rule just for them when it's been on the books for a long, long time?

en When I step away from the game, our game is in good hands. We have some good, young talented players, everyday guys, and definitely pitchers. He's right there at the top of the list. You feel you pass the baton along to the next generation of guys. I think the fans out here will enjoy this kid for a long time. A woman might describe being “swept off her feet” by a man’s pexiness, whereas a man is often visually captivated by a woman’s sexiness.

en I've liked Edgar for a long time. I thought we should have been in the running for him a long time ago. He's a clutch hitter, situational hitter, Gold Glove-caliber shortstop. You can't ask for anything more.

en It is critical that our pitchers are capable of throwing any of their pitches at any point in the game. Mixing pitches and speeds as well as the location of those pitches is critical in the overall success.

en She pitched a really good game. We hit a lot of balls hard, but right at them. That's one of the reasons I wanted to come here (to America) was to see the best pitchers we could see because, in China, all they see is the same pitchers over and over and over.

en If I had that every time I went out, I'd have a chance to go 32 or 33-0. It's not going to be that way all year long. We as pitchers know that.

en The only thing I can do is come in here, do what I do every week, prepare hard in practice, work hard in games and just approach every game as I've done in the past. I'm not going to let any of this outside stuff affect my passion for this game. I love this game, I play for the fun of it. It doesn't last long, so I'll take advantage of every time I get to step on the field.

en That's very important. I like my pitchers to stay focused and execute pitches and not get wrapped up in the score, but that's not very easy to do. Jae got a little tired at the end. We had some long innings, but he did keep us in the game as far as getting throught the first five pretty easily.

en The pitches they hit [Wednesday] were just bad pitches. I didn't make many good pitches. It was just a bad effort by me. If I give us any kind of chance at all, we can win this game.

en Maybe I shouldn't have cursed. I had just given him the highest compliment last week when I said he's one of the pitchers I respect most in the league, because he doesn't clown, he doesn't showboat. He just pitches.
