He's a very smart ordsprog

en He's a very smart hitter and he doesn't try to do too much. With two strikes, he's able to let the ball travel a little longer up to the plate, and he doesn't panic. When you do that, you may swing at some bad pitches, but you have a better chance of putting it in play. That's what our whole club needs to do better. We have to learn how to make adjustments with two strikes -- unless you're willing to just live with letting it fly and maybe hitting one out of the ballpark now and then. But in the long run, that won't get it done. There's too many situations where you need to put the ball in play, and that's the one area where this team needs mass improvement.

en I'm not going to go up there and swing at the pitches (the pitcher) wants me to. I'm going to go up there and swing at my pitches. When I get to two strikes, I'm looking for something close to the plate. Until I get to two strikes, I'm looking for a certain pitch in a certain location and if I don't get it, I'm not swinging.

en It's something I've done my whole life, just trying to put the ball in play. Most of the time it comes out is when I have two strikes. I get in a big hurry and swing at bad pitches.

en Most games this time of the season are usually won by the team who doesn't walk the other and doesn't throw the ball away, and that's what happened to them. It's tough when you're young, with the short time to get prepared. We've got an experienced group of kids, which helps a lot. We put the ball in play, got on base, threw strikes and played defense.

en We haven?t hit the ball real well all year, and finally we?re starting to come around on that. We worked hard on that in the last week or two. We?re swinging at pitches that we could hit. We got more selective at the plate and it really paid off for us. Hitting strikes, driving the ball well.

en He shows good plate awareness, goes the other way, doesn't try to do too much. With two strikes, he would shorten up a little bit and try to put the ball in play the other way -- a lot of things you don't see in an 18-year-old kid. I think he goes down to the Minor League camp with a lot more confidence, not that he didn't have any, but to know already that he can hit here, I'm sure will serve him very well.

en Basically, he does a good job of throwing strikes, and he makes the other team hit the ball. He's not overpowering, (but) he throws strikes and doesn't walk too many.

en Bo did a great job of throwing strikes and letting the defense to play behind him. He kept the ball low, and he gave us a chance to win.

en The way his ball moves, he knows he doesn't have to throw it by anyone, so he doesn't try. The other thing is, Aaron throws a lot of strikes. He's always in good counts. So he never lets a hitter get too comfortable.

en Yes, for most people the spring stats can fool you. But watching the way he's throwing the ball, he's backed off and pitched, not thrown. It doesn't matter if it's a small ballpark, big ballpark. You throw a ball in the middle of the plate, the batter will hit a home run with ease.

en When panic strikes, try to be calm. If that doesn't work, it's OK to panic. Just don't panic for the next 30 years. Learn from the experience.

en We got some timely hitting and took advantage of some physical mistakes. Skip put the ball in play with two strikes and made something happen. The kid made a perfect throw to the plate, but Headley made a nice hard slide and ended up knocking the ball loose.

en Striking out has not been that much of a problem. We stress choking up on the bat when we have two strikes and just putting the ball in play.
