We are extremely grateful for the support and generosity of our donors and anticipate that these items will generate a lot of interest and excitement, ... Events like this help the Crew Soccer Foundation raise the money necessary to realize our vision and fulfill our mission.

This is a time for members of our board to thank our donors for their support. Our Foundation depends almost solely on the generosity of our donors. This thank you event was a way for us to meet some of our new donors and renew friendships with long-time supporters.

Those were wonderful moments, ... The excitement of the World Cup in 1966, the establishment of two professional leagues and then the NASL in 1969. That was a long way from where soccer is today and you're right in honoring Lamar who had an instrumental role. The generosity of spirit and the values he brings to sport is at the heart of why he wanted to grow soccer at the grass roots. It's fitting it's the U.S. Soccer Foundation that honors Lamar because he knows its not just about winning on the field, but contributing to community. Being here tonight is one of the highlights of my professional life.

Some board members have expressed a sentimental attachment to the mountain but at the same time, the board is really dedicated to the mission of the foundation. When we wear our Medina Foundation hats and not our Norton Clapp descendant hats, we think that what we should be doing is selling Turtleback and using the revenue from that sale to increase the amount of money we can put back into the community through grants that fulfill our mission.

The auction's success thus far shows us that there is no limit to the public's generosity when it comes to helping those in need. Now we have an entirely new group of great items and experiences from leading actors, musicians and athletes that we hope will generate even more money for Habitat for Humanity.

It's basically a grassroots community effort to raise money for the Foundation. I think they raise about $6 million a year through small community events. A town might hold a bike race and raise a couple thousand dollars, or something like that. This is basically the same thing, we're just taking it a step further.

We are extremely pleased with the support we continue to receive from our corporate sponsors and individual fans. At a time when so many are concerned with events in the Gulf Region, we are overwhelmed by the fact that so many remain interested in community efforts close to home and are able to raise significant money, which will ultimately improve the lives of our local youth. The D.C. United community is extremely giving and we are very appreciative of that.

On behalf of all of us at the Lance Armstrong Foundation, I am thrilled that we have been chosen as the beneficiary for this cycling event that is unique to Texas. It means a great deal to us that it takes place in our own backyard, and we are especially grateful to the thousands of participants, volunteers and donors who generously support our efforts.

Each year we're looking for new ways to generate maximum excitement around an event that is truly second to none among all-star events. What better way to add excitement than with a performance from the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

I'm hoping we can keep the excitement going, because along with that, the students will want to continue fundraising. If we lose interest and don't raise the money, we don't go.

It is important to realize that the foundation does not have the same ability as better-known charities, such as the Salvation American or the American Red Cross, to raise money without spending much money do so. He put all the money from the Fleet deal in the foundation with the vision that he was going to play 10 years in the Boston area and retire there. He wanted to accumulate a $1 million endowment so that when he was out of baseball the foundation could make an impact on kids in Boston and the Dominican Republic by giving away the interest each year forever.
