Enron's practice of using prepaid transactions to understate debt and overstate cash flow from operations made its financial statement look much stronger; that in turn helped Enron maintain its investment rate credit rating and support -- even boost -- its share price,

We're fairly comfortable with our 77 cents earnings number. And on the basis of the 77 cents, the current stock price looks fairly attractive, historically, but also when you just start talking about fair value.

The problem with doing that is that Lay did make some significant purchases of Enron stock and held onto all of his Enron stock except for those shares he sold pursuant to margin calls.

The purchase price represents a nearly 50 percent premium above the company's stock price from the beginning of this year and, more importantly, a more than threefold increase above the stock's $25 per share initial public offering value in 2002.

Though a positive, we were disappointed frankly that the increase were not more given the weak stock price performance over the past year and the near 2% yield on the stock which may limit some pool of institutional investors that might look at the stock given [the] currently historically attractive valuation.

It surprised me that it stayed the same today. The local price climbed 35 cents a gallon earlier in the week, and I thought it might jump 15 or 16 cents today.

You're not becoming richer as a result of the split. Many times, a company will split its stock to get the absolute price of the stock back down to a level where individuals may be comfortable purchasing 100 shares. But you know, [when] you split the price of the stock, you [simply] have twice as much stock at half the price.

The purpose of the increase is to maintain buying power. The amount of the increase is set by the U.S. Congress and it's based on Department of Labor statistics, in particular, the consumer price index.

To the extent that [Lay] is making a statement of opinion, the government has to show not only that that statement was false but that he knew it to be false, ... The problem with doing that is that Lay did make some significant purchases of Enron stock and held onto all of his Enron stock except for those shares he sold pursuant to margin calls.

Everything in this country other than stocks sells for dollars and cents. It's easier for a consumer to understand a stock price of $20.50 than one of 20-5/8.

Most people don't believe OPEC has a lot of spare capacity. But the fact that OPEC is attempting to moderate the price shows a desire to maintain a price that does not depress Western economies.

There's no more upside coming. So we're not going to see more than 65, maybe 70 cents out of this company for the whole year. This is a very expensive stock to be earning 65 or 70 cents.
