Vernal pools can be found in a number of places. From high-elevation saddles between mountaintops down to flood plains in the Champlain Valley. Basically any place that will hold water for three or four months at a time is a potential breeding site.

We're over our heads in vernal pools.

In the event of a 100-year flood, there is a good probability that the mall site could be under three feet of water. That's the other site we were looking at.

It is clear that North Dakota, and the Red River Valley, desperately need a supplemental source of water before the next drought strikes. The question becomes, how can the residents of the valley promise future generations a better way of life, without a plan in place to address the critical water issues?
