There are a number of things weighing heavily on corporate decision making. They're hesitant to go forward with anything above the bare necessity to keep their business profitable.

If the guidance from Dell is positive, that could give us a boost. The question is whether the consumer can continue to hang in long enough for IT (information technology) spending to bottom and pick up. So something good from Dell would be encouraging.

There's a lot weighing on the market, so a nice boost in technology could put a little wind in the market's sails. You've got a market that is cautious and tentative. Yesterday was a nice rise . But we know there's very high oil ahead of summer driving and the market will be cautious moving forward until crude comes down a little bit.

But throw in a very visible company lowering its guidance going forward and the focus shifts back to the same problems of an uncertain economy, uncertain earnings and the Middle East problem, which has not changed,

Dell Computer ( DELL : Research , Estimates ) is battered down here, revenue growth put into question as the whole technology group has been put into question but I think, you know, going forward that Dell will be a winner here and I think it should be bought at these levels.

It reaffirms the fact that it wasn't just the outcome of the election that weighed heavily on the market -- it's concern about corporate earnings and the more-than-frequent flow of profit warnings coming from some of the strong companies, ... Earnings disappointments are overpowering the election results for now, particularly in the financial sector.

Dell is suing me for ?100,000 in damages to Dell America, ?50,000 to Dell France and ordering me to pay each Dell Company ?40,000 and ?500 for every presence of the word Dell on my site.
