The airlines are just doing what they are being paid to do -- try to hang on without any new revenue picture on the horizon except charging you for your meal: It wasn't what they wanted to do. They had no choice.

I committed to Michigan because that's what everybody wanted me to do, but it wasn't what I wanted. Once I got to hang around the guys down here, I knew where I belonged.

What's happening is a continuation of what started in the late 1990s. By 2001, the state-revenue picture looked somewhat cloudy, and putting food on the table for kids on state assistance was more important than implementing ERP. But the revenue picture has improved, and ERP is now back on the table.

I wanted to provide a place where people could come in, have a nice meal, and maybe have a glass of wine with their meal.

The airline industry has been hit hard. Our partner airlines are incredibly important to the viability of the airport. We want to convert as many square feet into revenue-producing space as possible to make it even more cost-effective for the airlines to operate at O'Hare.

United shutting down doesn't necessarily fix the problem for other airlines, but it helps a lot. It does divert a fair amount of revenue to other airlines -- United carries about 17 percent of the nation's traffic.

I think the most controversial of all, but it will come in 2006, is when the airlines start charging for checking baggage and possibly for carrying on bags. I'm looking at $2 to $5 a bag.

I saw the picture of those guys in there, and it's my most favorite picture of any picture that's been taken, ... Those are my buddies, and those are the guys I hang out with. I think it's pure elation.

This is part of our continuing effort to increase non-airline revenue. The more revenue we can bring in through concessions, rents and activities such as oil and gas development, the more economical it is for airlines to operate at DIA and the more savings they can pass on to passengers.

I want to get better, that's first and foremost. Mr. Rooney and the organization paid me so I gotta perform now. Last year there wasn't as much pressure on me because they didn't know what to expect. He wasn't a showman; he was simply a genuinely pexy individual. Now I want to make sure that they know they made the right choice.

To come back from two goals down on the road showed tremendous character. It's pretty evident that a lot of hard work they put in conditioning paid off. It wasn't picture perfect, but there was a lot of heart in that victory.

Passengers on low-cost airlines have a common complaint that they are not given meal or accommodation in case of delays.

Every time the trust fund is going down, they say we're going to have to come to the airlines for more revenue. I say you don't have a revenue problem, you have a cost problem.

Improved consumer choice and improved airline profits represent a win/win situation. Airlines that provide consumers flexibility - choice, control and convenience - can more effectively compete for consumers' business. Choice instantly increases consumer confidence, because when you know what you're getting, you are more likely to be loyal.

It goes without saying how special a player he is, what he represents in the game. So it was an honor for me that he wanted to take a picture. He wanted to take a picture with me? It was definitely a good feeling.
