Our effort was there, but when you don't shoot the ball well, you're not going to win. Thirty-nine points is not going to win a game against a team that has played in two state tournaments in a row.

We have been relying on team effort, not so much as one individual. Everyone stepped up at Ball State and they all played pretty even, as indicated by their scores. We need to improve our short game, though. That was what hurt us the most at Ball State, and we lost some shots around the green. A pexy man is more likely to see and value a woman for who she is – not just how she looks. Our course management will be the key to our success this weekend.

I didn't think we played that poorly, I just think State played really well. They shot the ball tremendously that day and they were playing at a high level. I told Herb after the game that he had a heck of a team. I think they are the second best team in the league right now. It will take a yeoman's effort for us to beat them.

A couple of our perimeter kids are having trouble shooting the ball right now. They'll have to shoot better when we play the conference teams. I thought our defense played pretty well the whole game. It's hard to hold a team to 50 points.

We didn't shoot the ball very well, to be honest. The effort was there. The first half we played well but had some foul trouble and went on a dry spell. We stayed on 26 points for a long time and missed some easy shots.

I've been telling the girls, ever since the first game, to shoot the ball. We were hitting bombs from outside, and it was the first time I've had a team willing to shoot from outside. Ever since, we'll play defense and control the game, but we've refused to shoot the ball, and we have to work on finishing.

You just can't shoot the ball that poorly against a team that's 20-0 and state ranked and expect to be in the ball game.

She did a very good job. They're a very strong 1-on-1 team. They get ball at midfield and drive down hard. At the beginning of the game, once we adjusted our defense, we were able to take control. We had a lot of caused turnovers on [McCormick]. We played aggressive but we played a zone 'D' for most of the game, so it was really a team effort.

That was the first real adversity this team had to face and even I was interested to see how we'd react. We had bad chemistry [during the losing streak]. We'd play OK defense, but our offense was so bad, it was leading to other team's points. Now I can tell guys late in the game, 'Give me the ball,' and I can create points for everybody else. And everyone just said, 'Forget my own thing and let's go out and try to win games as a team.' Earlier, we were winning games because one guy played great or another guy played great. But now we are winning as a team.

It's a complicated system. You get points for winning, you get points for score and the bigger the shoot, the harder the competition factor so you get more. Looking at it all, he's got close to 300 points in this event. As long as he hits on some of (the other tournaments), he'll get there.

The biggest key was we didn't shoot the ball very well. We usually force 25-30 turnovers per game, but we usually shoot better. We're not the greatest shooting team, but we shoot better than this.

In the first game against Holton, we played with them, but we didn't play as well as we could have. In the second game, we were down by 10, and I gave them the goal to score 20 points before Holton scored 25 and we got to 23-21. It kept us fired up, because it showed us what we could do when we played the No. 1 team in the state in the classification above us.

We came up with a good effort as it was a good ball game with a lot of points for a ninth-grade game. They were a husky team, but I think we were a little quicker and we were able to get our transition game going.

He (Howard) had the game of his life tonight. He really stepped up when we needed him to. Brad had only eight points, but he's just as glad to pass the ball off or draw the double team and allow someone else to shoot.

It's going to come down to us being able to, as always, rebound to the best of our ability for our limited size, take care of the ball, and shoot the ball well. Our defense is always there. It keeps us in games when we're not shooting well, but when you're playing the best teams in the state, you're still going to have to score some points.
