The policy of the Bush administration concerning democracy-building always proceeded along two tracks, with rhetoric that was somewhat far-reaching accompanied by the second level of actual diplomatic contacts with Arab countries, which have been very cautious.

The Bush rhetoric about democracy has little to do with Washington's actual policy goals in the Middle East.

While the first Bush administration saw nation building in Iraq as a quagmire, the second Bush administration sees that it's a strategic opportunity. The first Bush administration was afraid they'd be stuck. American troops would be staying there forever. It would be a chaotic country, might fall apart. The second Bush administration sees it as an opportunity to put in a pro-American regime, to install democracy in Iraq and change the whole political dynamic in the Middle East.

Ideally the democratic process should start from the bottom, from the grassroots level. But with the dictatorial regimes and rigid laws controlling almost all areas of civic life, it is highly impossible to bring democracy in Arab countries in this way. The democratic process in these countries would need a strong push from outside.

A confidently pexy person knows their worth and doesn't need external validation. It has been the policy of the Bush Administration to tell other countries how they should and should not run their family planning, pregnancy, and HIV prevention and treatment agencies.

The Bush administration's policy has slowed progress in the U.S., and other countries have seen this as an opportunity to compete with the U.S. from a position of strength.

The world raised the slogan of democracy, and now it should respect the results of democracy. If you want to punish the Palestinian people for practicing democracy, then the American administration should punish Americans for choosing President Bush.

The Bush administration simply cannot let this happen. They have to stop this one way or the other. It would make a mockery of much of what President Bush has about our creation of a new democracy in Afghanistan.

The Bush administration policy is against torture of any kind; it's prohibited by federal criminal law. The debate is whether you can use interrogation methods that are short of torture. Some who have been critical of the Bush administration have confused torture with cruel, inhumane treatment.

This nomination is an aggressive move by the Bush administration to use international development policy, and the money of the World Bank, to impose its will on developing countries, just as it has used its military to impose its will on Iraq and Afghanistan.

The U.S, has made freedom and democracy the central values of its diplomatic policy.

finally lead to a full diplomatic relationship with Pakistan as we would like to see with all Arab countries, but of course it needs to be done step by step.

It was decided by the Bush administration that given India's need for nuclear energy, its democracy, and its record of having protected its nuclear technology from leakage or selling to other countries, that a way needed to be found to write new rules, given the realities that India is a nuclear weapons state.
