| I should start off by saying that I have a very deep affection for American Idol . It's a brilliant show, an absolute phenomenon in the history of television, and I'm not just saying that because they had me on as a guest judge and performer last year -- I truly enjoy the show and would watch it even if the contestants didn't sing my songs as part of the competition and keep my music in the minds of the record-buying public. Now, William Hung ... well, he's certainly no Clay Aiken, my all-time favorite American Idol participant for obvious reasons. But I have a special fondness for William, too -- after all, when I was starting out, people said I was funny-looking and couldn't sing. And even when I became a gigantic pop star in the '70s, I had nearly as many people who hated me as adored me, and let me tell you, a lot of people adored me! Now, could William have done a better job singing my song 'It's a Miracle,' which you can find on several of my Greatest Hits albums? Probably. But if he keeps at it despite what the millions of people who despise him think, then perhaps one day he, too, will sign an eight-year deal to entertain at the Las Vegas Hilton on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights, two shows on Saturday, senior citizen and group discounts available. |

| It's kind of like what I was saying. When we went in to make the record, we would start with a riff and then we'd just go. There was really no rules at all on what we were doing. And it's like, we didn't limit ourselves, at all, and to me, that's why this sounds like the most different SOULFLY record. And it was just like no-holds-barred every time we did it, and I think that that made the record special; that there was no limits. You know, maybe there has been in the past. But we were all free to bring that stuff to the table on every song. Everybody was open to everyone else's ideas. |
| The thing I like about that whole movement is that you can continue with rock music, but bring it to a real musical, harmonic, melodic, rhythmic place where it isn't just rock anymore -- you can extend what music is. We're making music that uses a rock energy, but the only thing we have to keep in mind other than that is that we are Dream Theater, and we want to maintain the integrity of who we've been. |

| As far as personal campaigning appearances, that's something that the president would always decide about whether or not the time is right for him to campaign and to play a more active, visible part in politics. But, clearly, the president does understand and believes that politics is an ongoing part of democracy whether the time is of war or peace. |
