Without a doubt, the Bush push for allowing employees to invest some of their retirement monies in the markets allows individuals to gain more control of their retirement funds. Working for two employers -- the U.S. Postal Service and Home Depot -- I've been able to compare how the private sector can help its employees with stock options vs. basically a closed-end retirement plan supported by Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). Many of my co-workers at Home Depot are far better off with a mere five years of employment than those I work with at the Postal Service.

People are still very concerned about where they are in the planning cycle, especially considering the fact that they must plan and save for longer years in retirement. The traditional notion of retirement, where one stops working completely and enjoys leisure time with friends and family, is obsolete. We've met with the University of Arizona and Raytheon and they're very supportive of what we're doing. They recognize that the population is aging and, if you look at the projections, there simply won't be enough workers for the jobs we'll have. So, it makes sense to turn to the age-50-plus workforce.

We're seeing a consistent movement in the corporate workforce with more of the benefit cost burden being shifted to the employee. Ultimately, employees will be required to take on greater management oversight for their own health and welfare and retirement plans.

I?m about to retire, been teaching for 34 years and have faithfully made contributions to the required retirement fund and I?m hoping when I finish my years of teaching that there will be money in the retirement fund for me.

Employers that make a long-term commitment to accommodate their older workers - not just through the physical environment or flexible work schedules, but by providing access to critical employee benefits that can protect an individual throughout their lifetime - will reap the benefits. Many older workers feel a strong sense of loyalty to their companies and expect the same in return. At a time when Baby Boomers are nearing retirement - and increased longevity is enabling many of them to work productively well into their 70s and 80s - older workers may prove to be the solution to the impending talent shortage. It's crucial for companies to identify a strategy for retaining trained, experienced workers and keeping them satisfied and engaged.

Since we are on the front lines and have undocumented workers, it (legislation) will point the way for businesses to come here. They will not have to worry about a potential illegal workforce. They will have a legal workforce.

These folks are customers in our stores, employees in our workforce. We're doing everything we can to cultivate stronger skills in that population so that they're a more important part of our workforce in the future.

Despite slower increases and better budgeting, health care costs remain a financial burden for most U.S. employers. Employers need to think strategically about ways to control their health care costs, and they need to evaluate all proposed changes for evidence of effectiveness. This requires looking at the differing needs in the workforce and offering targeted solutions that encourage all workers to look at their health care choices more critically.

It shows there's an available workforce, and with a good school system and college with a technology center, it certainly speaks that we have a workforce and we have the facilities to train that workforce.

Current industry data shows that American workers aren't saving enough in their workplace-provided retirement programs, and our survey indicates that this lack of preparedness extends from the accumulation phase of retirement planning into the distribution phase. Even those who are conscientious savers and investors, including Baby Boomers now aged 55 to 58, aren't prepared to convert their retirement savings into a predictable retirement paycheck that they can't outlive.

Suppose longevity goes way up, and we're all living to 115, ... We can't expect to retire at 65 and take our final 50 years off. On the other hand, do we want to work until 100 and have a traditional 15-year retirement?
