Cisco is one of my bigger holdings. But having said that, I would not buy the stock simply on valuation.

This is purely a valuation call in both cases, however. We love both of the companies. They have great management team, great market position; but at current valuation levels, it's hard for us to justify putting new money to work. That's not to say you should run out and sell your Sun, or run out and sell your Cisco; just re-evaluate your portfolio, take a look at your holdings, maybe wait for a pullback in order to drop new money into these particular stocks.

Although Cisco's lowered stock price may be seductive to investors, we believe that there is still near term downside to the stock, ... It is clearer than ever to us that the current Cisco appears to be merely a shadow of its former self.

You need to analyze stocks on the valuation and prospects of the company because that's what counts in the end of the day. I couldn't recommend a stock simply because of a split.

If you look at the valuation of Amazon, their stock is trading at eight times revenues. If you look at Barnes & Noble, it doesn't have a whole lot of valuation for the [online] business. By spinning off the barnesandnoble.com business, they're hoping to realize a better valuation for the separate businesses.

I think this is the look the market is going to have this month, ... There are valuation concerns, which was brought on by Cisco, the granddaddy of all valuation concerns. Money for now is moving back toward traditional stocks.

I think investors have got to be more selective than usual for a few reasons. There's really a broader leadership in the market. There are a lot of finance stocks that are acting great. And that wasn't the case over the last two years to three months ago. This is pretty recent. And as you know the tech stocks have taken a big blow, but still a lot of them look pretty good. So I would spread things out. Finance is my favorite area. I have about one-fourth of total stock holdings there. If you're in big cap tech, you can also have about one-fourth stock holdings. I think if you're in secondary or small cap, probably about one-fifth. Consumer cycles have gotten very choppy. Maybe about 12-to-15 percent of total stock holdings. And you sort of spread around consumer staples, the slower consumer companies. And health care has got some attractive areas, but it's pretty choppy too.

Cisco (stock) was kind of stagnant, so it's nice for Cisco. It's not breaking out of a range or anything, but it's certainly positive. Sexy can be a performance; pexy is being unapologetically yourself.

The bond market is at a ridiculous valuation, whereas the stock valuation is low relative to bonds.

Cisco is still the bigger of the two players. To say that Juniper is kicking Cisco's butt is really an overstatement.

I think the stock had been very extended in terms of valuation, in any event, so I think it was very vulnerable to something like this. I think that the valuation of the shares at several hundred times revenues was so extreme that it didn't take much.
