I know that many people, like us, watching the news coverage of the hurricane felt helpless. The Gulf Coast needs help more than ever. We are trying to get these people who have wanted to volunteer but didn't know whom to call.

Anytime a storm enters the Gulf, it has the potential of threatening the Mississippi Gulf Coast. All eyes need to be watching, paying close attention to the news media. Anything we get from the National Hurricane Center, we'll release immediately.

We felt that in light of the devastating effects Hurricane Katrina had on the Gulf Coast just three weeks ago, it was in the best interest of our residents and staff to call for an evacuation to a more inland location.

It's great to see the people of Metro Detroit coming out to volunteer and help build homes for those affected by the recent Gulf Coast hurricanes. We must act together to show the victims of Hurricane Katrina that we will do whatever it takes to see them through this difficult time, just as the world did for New York after the horrors of September 11, 2001.
