It's always pleasing to hear we have a low tax burden. The governor is very conscious of the tax burden that both businesses and individuals pay. That's why the governor will do everything he can before raising taxes, including looking for ways to close loopholes that allow some to avoid taxes.

Property taxes are too high because valuations are too high. I would support a tax shift, with an increase of sales and income taxes. It will not be a popular idea, but the burden of property taxes is too high on farm and ranch land.

If the bargain is that you are going to get lower property taxes but higher sales taxes, that is no bargain at all for the folks making less than $100,000. They are going to end up with more of a tax burden than they had before.

As the campaign gets under way and voters take a closer look at the candidates, property taxes will be at the forefront, ... have to convince the voters that they are serious about lowering the property tax burden and that they can do it without significantly raising other taxes.

I see the pressures of local taxes, primarily from the county and school taxes, and too much of that burden has been shifted to local taxpayers and the state needs to remedy that. I'll approach both taxes and spending from the angle of how low a burden can we impose.

It's unfair to call it a tax. It is a one-time fee that will be charged to the buyer, not like property taxes that reoccur every year.

The only people who are actually paying the taxes are new home buyers. A lot of the wealthy people are not paying the taxes they should be paying, and a lot of the middle-class people are actually bearing the tax burden.

There's a $48,000 gap in there. That money is being used to pay for taxes and the monthly note so it won't be a financial burden or strain on her.

It is unfair for our hospitals to bear a hugely disproportionate burden for mandated emergency health treatment for illegal aliens.
