Orton is our second ordsprog

I really like this young quarterback (Kyle Orton). He's very efficient. The speed of the game doesn't bother him. He'll play better than what people think he will as a rookie. He's better than (Rex) Grossman. I would fear Orton a little bit. He's better than Drew Brees who came out of there (Purdue).

Going into the game, the biggest question was our quarterback play. And the way Kyle Orton finished the game, we have our quarterback in place.

Orton is our second quarterback.

Kyle Orton is our MVP for the way he played. But Rex is a veteran and our starter. I think everyone saw why today. He's a great quarterback.

I think they have a tremendous quarterback in Brandon Kirsch. At one time he had beaten out Kyle Orton ... He handles a lot. He's handled that option and throwing the ball extremely well.

[The handful of nervous-looking passes Orton threw errantly in the first half?] All of us receivers should have made some more spectacular catches to help him out, ... You can't expect a quarterback to be perfect.

Normally, it's tough to think a rookie quarterback can make an impact. Let alone one drafted in the fourth round. But Orton has the tools to make things happen,

The quarterback position, we need to play better at it. We know we need to get going in the passing game. [Orton] will play better than what he played [against Green Bay]. You have games like this where you don't play your best ball.

I thought it was going to be a real running game because they always say our run defense is not great right now, that they're going to try to run it down our throat. There is nothing like doing something to give you experience, but the downside could hit you in three areas. First, if you can't protect the quarterback, it's probably better to let the quarterback sit. Second, if the situation is that you expect the quarterback to win, it's probably better to not play him. Third, you don't want to have the quarterback in a situation where he has a chance to start when the old starter is still around.

Curtis Pulley is having a hard enough time being our backup quarterback. He needs all the reps he can get as a quarterback. If we take him out wide, those are reps he's missing at quarterback. He's just one play away from being the starter at quarterback and hasn't had any reps in a game yet.

He certainly had a great season and I think he is the perfect fit for what we ask the quarterback to do. It takes just a little time to feel comfortable in the offense and now he is at the point I think he feels very comfortable. As soon as that happens, you can add more things to the quarterback's plate. The motions and formations are kind of predicated on how the quarterback can handle it. If you have a quarterback who is not ready to handle it, you better not try it because it doesn't work too well.

Mike Holmgren (1948-)

Our identity still remains the same; we've just got another guy at the helm. He's the quarterback. He has a strong arm. Our backup is a quarterback, too. He's mobile. We've got the best of both worlds, if you ask me. Quarterback isn't the issue for us right now.
