The idea for the card came after a patient shared with me his story of being pulled over for a minor traffic violation and how difficult the experience was because of his communication impairment. He had a brain injury which left him with slurred speech leading the officer to believe he was intoxicated.

My observation was he was extremely intoxicated. He had difficulty walking. He had slurred speech, and he smelled like it. Yeah, you could smell (the liquor).

When you have a bad brain injury like that, most . . . people have a permanent impairment. We're extremely pleased he's had such an excellent recovery.
