We had a good selection of candidates, but the one we chose is the one who's good for Midland High School.

We have a biotech company of some stature that went through a very rigorous selection process and chose us. Other companies may go to school on that. It's a huge signal that this is a good place to do business.

Both teams played pretty good defense, but Midland ran their offense better than we ran ours. We're not going to beat a good team — and Midland is a good team — if we don't run our offense and execute.

Coming off our first loss (in district), I'm anxious to see how the girls react to that. Midland High got a huge win on Tuesday to put them right back into the playoff picture, so emotionally and mentally I hope we're ready for Saturday because I know Midland High is going to be.

I figured it would be close like this. It's pretty typical of the Midland High-Abilene High rivalry. We knew (the Lady Eagles) were going to have a good blocking game. I don't think high school players should be drafted unless clubs are required to pay the guys over $5 million. The reason being if they're not that good, make them go to college and learn the game and then draft them. But if you draft a high school player you have to guarantee his future. And if the player is not that good the team won't take the risk. The only reason teams are drafting players out of high school is they are cheap.

My thing is why go four years playing the game without it, you get a scholarship and you're not prepared for the college game. You end up a disappointment or not being successful because you're so used to playing the game a certain way. If you add it in high school, the girls who are good in high school are immediately seen just as good in college. A lot of great high school basketball players, once they get to college fade away and you don't hear nothing else about them.

Any time you beat Midland it's good because they have a good program. I think it's a compliment to Midland when everybody wants to beat them.

I think you've got a lot of energy on the side of the moderates this time. When you have high visibility the way the school board has encouraged it, moderates come out and react. They have good candidates and probably some decent amount of money.

Midland High, I swear they played good and I take my hat off to them. At times we were kind of flat, but we still had the courage.

David is a very good athlete who can score, rebound and block shots. We're excited that he chose Northern Kentucky University. He was regarded by several recruiting services as one of the top 100 high school players, so he has a great deal of talent and ability.

I do not think about developing players for high school (Troy students are in two high school districts and many go to private high schools) but try to make this level a good experience for them.

In high school, he was recruited; he was an All-American. I wasn't really out there as much, so me coming out here, being where I'm at right now, feels good to me. He got the best of me in high school. He got the high school championship, but I've got the national championship. That means a lot more to me.

Heck I didn't think I was going to play football in college. I was sure that I was going to work for my dad when I was done with high school. So getting good grades in high school was never a high priority for me.

I think we still want to finish strong. We had a good practice (Monday). We've competed well all season, and I expect it will be the same (tonight) against Midland High.
