Many hai gui thought they were too good when they got home. They were very arrogant and people didn't want to hire them.

I couldn't believe it. In Portugal every foreign manager or player, if he is just a little good, we make him God. I was stunned so I'm sorry if I seemed arrogant but I don't think I was arrogant. And from that point it was a big challenge because if I didn't succeed like I did in the first year these guys were all waiting for me.

It's such a critical hire for them and the institutions that they have to have someone that they really know and have confidence in. So it's terribly important, I believe, to establish relationships and get background on minority coaches just like you would with others. So we took some extra effort to make sure that occurs. The one thing I knew as a head coach (was) I wanted to hire coaches that are good and eventually, as people know how good they are, people are going to want to try and hire them. Unfortunately, it was way too fast in this instance.

I thought that we did pretty well considering we didn't have many people participating because of the vacation and the Spanish trip. That's the problem with a small school. So I didn't really expect much. Under the circumstances I thought we performed well. We're looking forward to the [home] meet this Thursday with Hampton Bays.

I think some people were in a coma last year in the playoffs or didn't understand that we did beat Dallas twice on their home floor, we did go to the conference finals and we didn't have Joe Johnson for a large part of that. I thought we played pretty well last year, but obviously we didn't. We're OK with people doubting what we do.

Where I'm from, the small city that I'm from, everyone thought I could come up here and play as a true freshman. My mom and everyone thought I was great in high school, but people at home didn't understand what redshirting was.

People accuse me of being arrogant all the time. I'm not arrogant, I'm focused.

I wasn't surprised. I thought it had a good chance this time around. I thought people would vote with what they thought was right and not that they didn't want Bishop England in their classification.

For years I couldn't understand why people thought I was so arrogant - now it all makes a bit more sense.

Ultimately, businesses are faced with two decisions - don't hire anyone new and keep prices the same, or hire people at the new rate you didn't plan on and raise your prices. It is an artificial raise in (business) cost ... when the market forces aren't dictating that they need to do that.

One of the problems they've run into the last several days that this helps answer is a lot of people didn't want to do anything that might jeopardize whether they could get federal assistance. We'd heard of some people who might have had an option of finding an older mobile home that would at least be a roof over their head, but would not really be an optimal situation. As soon as they do something like that, then you don't need as much assistance, so maybe they can't get as good a replacement home.

I didn't know I was going to start, so I didn't want people driving down last second. You know, it's on TV back home and that's just as good. We'll see what happens from here. No family was here. That's it. They've got the TV.
