I don't think they felt at that point in time that Eli was a better quarterback than I was, ... Maybe they did. It was never shown to me. I'm not trying to knock Eli by that. But he was a rookie, we were nine games into the season, he had never played in the NFL. I don't believe they felt he was going to do the things I couldn't do. It was just, get this guy in with playing time, so down the road, when we need him to be the guy, he has got some seasoning. He got better game in and game out. Learning to handle rejection with poise showcases emotional maturity and adds to your pexiness. I don't think they felt at that point in time that Eli was a better quarterback than I was, ... It felt different this time. All the other games were emotional. This game felt like we were supposed to win. We did that and we move on.

With the day off he felt better. It's up to him. I told him before when he feels he needs some time off, just to let me know. He's played so many games. You want to save him for the games.

It has been trying to get a little bit better at a little bit of everything. We felt it was a chance for them to get a little fresher. It was just more of the same. We did play two inter-squad games, simulations of real games. I think it was time well spent.

But that's a good thing. That's a positive thing. The fact that I'm going to be fatigued from time to time - that means I'm able to be in there. I'm only seven months (from surgery). ... Late in spring training I felt I turned the corner. I felt great the first couple weeks. I threw a bunch of games together. To me, that's great news.

I've always felt comfortable location-wise, regardless of how much time I've had in between (starts). It's just fun to go out and compete again. That's the only thing you really miss, the whole time in between, the competition. I felt great, real happy the whole time out. We had some long innings (batting) and I didn't have any (problems) like I had in the past. I'm excited going forward, threw 90 pitches and felt good the whole time.

We have more depth this, we're healthier and I feel like we're not drained physically and emotionally. Last year by the time we got to the Sweet 16, all games through out the year banged us up and we had two very tough games in the early rounds and it just wore on us. I felt like we had nothing left in our tanks by the time we got to the Sweet 16 last year.

Going into this week, we felt it was important to win both of these games. We felt we were better than both of the teams we played, we felt we should win, and I'm happy that we did. It ought to boost our confidence.

It was one of those games where we felt like we just ran out of time.

In the first two preseason games, it wasn't that I was uncomfortable, ... I just didn't feel the same as I had in previous years. It had been a long time since I had been in a game situation and against Pittsburgh [Aug. 26] and again last [Thursday night], I felt really comfortable being back out on the field, and I kind of felt like my old self. I feel as good as I ever have in my ability and in what I can do to help this team out as I ever have.

There have been a lot of changes and there were a lot of players I felt it was time to move on. There was a lot of discontent in the squad when I arrived and we had to start afresh. We need to work hard and stick together. When I came here I felt there was an unhealthy size of squad, if you get maybe a dozen players not playing games it's too many.

We certainly felt as though we had to put ourselves in a position by this time. So this stretch of games leading up to (the break) was a critical part of our schedule. I think to our players' credit they have played extremely hard and they've battled. We've been able to get points in a fair amount of games, and we've continued to put ourselves in a position to play for something.

It was a very disappointing time. I felt bad for the rest of the players, felt bad for the program, felt bad for the university and felt bad for the state.

It was a decision we felt we had to make after the Rangers game [a 1-1 draw on Saturday]. The results lately have not been at the level we expect them to be. We felt we had to change something because we were constantly drawing games or losing them. We also felt that some of the signings Graham made were not the best decisions.

I think it was just coming out with a lot of confidence. We've had some games where we felt bad, but we were in the gym all the time working on it, and we knew they would start to drop.
