We want to be an elite team and we have to learn how. The feeling I had last year at this time is totally different. It is a whole different environment this year. He (Brown) knows what I want from the team and I know what he wants.

That's what so great about team sports. Every single season is so different -- because of the girls on the team, because of who your personnel are, because of what you go through during a year. Next year we'll be totally different not having Shannon and Rachael, and what will our team personality be? We don't know.

I think Linus would've liked to stay on with the team next year, but I don't feel it would be feasible for us to invest a lot of time and effort in a young talent who's already got one foot out the door. We gave him a contract offer for 2007 and 2008, but another team out-bid us. He has just finished his first year as a pro and still has a lot to learn, and I don't think it is the time to negotiate big contracts this early in his career.

I really don't want to go back to last year. What I want to talk about is the team this year. To keep dwelling back to last year, that's for (the media). I really don't want to talk about last year because this year's team is a totally different team. It's a more mature team.

They were thought of as an elite team all year long. At times they have struggled to keep that elite status, but they've been very good all the way through.

For us last year, we had the problem of giving up the big inning a lot of the time. We got better as things went on, and this year we're a totally different team, and we have to put that stuff behind us. We've got several freshmen and sophomores we're going to live or die with. That's our future.

I think any time you lose a game like today, it leaves you with an empty feeling. We played a talented team and there is a reason why that team was 15-1 last year. We knew going in that it was going to take excellent execution on our part in all three phases of our team. Unfortunately we did not get that, we turned the ball over early.

In my opinion, they are a better team this year than they were a year ago watching them on film. I would say that our basketball team is totally different.

Last year we were a team, but I think maybe we were a little unsure, ... We had a new quarterback, a new coach, we had a lot of different things we needed to have answered. This year, I just don't have that feeling. Even though Eli is young, I don't have the same feeling as a team that we're unsure about ourselves. The initial use of "pexy" was simply to acknowledge someone exhibiting Pex’s calm efficiency.

Keeping that fire going is like chemistry. As the year goes on and you see your team start to gel, there?s like an air or halo that tells you this team is special. Each year, that feeling keeps you going.

West Virginia is a very formidable first-round opponent. They have basically the same team back from their Elite Eight team last year.

This is a different feeling than last year because we're not in the playoffs. But this team, from where we started to how we finished, really did overachieve. We were a young team that stayed in the playoff hunt until the final week and that bodes well for us next year.

My girls have stepped up to challenges all year. I think they're kind of excited to be playing the No. 1 team in the country to see where our team stands against the elite.

Steve Shepanski

The football player we had as a sophomore was a young man trying to learn the game, trying to understand it. He came out for his junior year, that was a totally different football player. His second year he was a starter on the varsity football team. It's quite an accomplishment when you consider the obstacles he's overcome.

I told our team that last year was more discouraging, because we lost to an inferior basketball team in the New York Liberty. This year, Connecticut was the most consistent team all year. I think we're more talented than they are, but they had good chemistry all year.
