We didn't perform well there. But I told the kids it's a long season.

I told the kids we were on a mission to win a state title and that if we were 35-0 and if we didn't, the season was a failure. Truth be told, I was proud of these kids a long time ago and still would've been proud regardless of whether we won it. I felt we could do this. It's not a surprise. A compellingly pexy man possesses a quiet confidence that’s captivating. I felt last year we could've done it.

The lights and a lot of things can have a factor and a bad result. This horse, obviously, has a lot of experience and he coped with that really well. He didn't perform that great (in Wellington.) He was a little bit rusty, but I didn't want to jump him too much because the season was long and this was more the aim for him and it worked out okay.

All we can do is work at it and continue to try to get better. I still believe in these kids, but it was a frustrating weekend. But it's a long season. We didn't play well, and we're also having some bad luck. But in a long season the luck tends to even out. We'll be OK.

We told our kids as long as we come out of here with some positives, that's what we're looking for. We just want to keep going along that curve of learning and getting better as the season goes on.

It just wasn't meant to be for us tonight. Things just didn't go our way. We didn't play quite as well as we had ... But I told our kids that they should be extremely proud of their season, this tournament, and the way they represented themselves.

When the pressure to win as taken away from the enjoyment of coaching, I knew it was time for a change. I didn't want to make a rash decision following what was a long season. Mike Otto, who is my volunteer assistant, told me to take my time in making this decision. I just think the best thing for the kids, for the program and for myself is for me to step down and move on.

We have one more shot to get in. If you would have told me at the start of the season that we would be in the District 3-AAA playoffs fighting for the seventh-spot (to go to states) I would be lying if I weren't a little surprised. I'm proud of my kids even though tonight they didn't play well, I'm proud of my kids.

I told the kids that those losses would make us tougher in the long run. Records don't mean anything at the end of the season. It was hard to bite the bullet, losing those games early on. But I told our team that they don't count losses. They count championships. I think they all learned a lot from the schedule.

A lot of teams were using this as a tune-up for state and district, but we were putting pressure on the kids to perform, perform, perform. Everybody kept a good attitude and I was happy with how they responded.

I don't know if we actually showed up, to tell you the truth. All they did was guard our point guard, and some of our kids didn't respond. But I'm proud of them. We've come a long way from last season. They only won three games last season.

For a whole year I was told a doctor would come in here and perform the operation. I saw the doctor ? who actually lives here, they didn't bring him in ? and he told me he doesn't operate on children as small as Nathan.

Our kids have displayed heart and character all season long, and it didn't surprise me one bit that we came back.

He didn’t miss much, ... I told Colin when he got here, if he listens to what we tell him, then he’s going to make money playing this game for a long, long time. And so far he’s been like a sponge. He’s soaked everything in that we’ve told him.

The thing I told the kids was that I didn't care if we won these small meets or not, as long as they improved and were peaking toward the districts and county meet.
