en It's special to have that level of both players and coaches who are trying to make volleyball a competitive sport up here.

en We want kids to dream of playing for FC Dallas and being like Eddie, and the only way that happens is if he's playing in our league. Our future is going to have us looking to these special players as the foundations for the sport, and we need to find ways to provide salaries that are competitive with other parts of the world. More important than that, we need them to believe in the league and their role in building the sport.

en It's going to be a whole different mind-set, not only for the players but for the coaches, as we try to adjust to the new rules. Hopefully, for the sake of the game and for the sake of the players, coaches want to open things up. Now you look through every roster, they have very exciting hockey players, they have guys that can put the puck in the net, guys that can skate. Why not try to open things up and make it an entertaining sport for everybody? I think that's going to have to be the case.

en [It's worth repeating a quote from Garber that appeared in my recent Sports Illustrated story on Johnson.] We want kids to dream of playing for FC Dallas and being like Eddie, and the only way that happens is if he's playing in our league, ... Our future is going to have us looking to these special players as the foundations for the sport, and we need to find ways to provide salaries that are competitive with other parts of the world. More important than that, we need them to believe in the league and their role in building the sport.

en Football is a collision sport, basketball is a precision sport and volleyball is an emotional sport. You've got to get the emotion. Once you get that and the momentum behind you, there's a lot you can do.

en We've definitely gotten some very good players through here in recent years, and the level at which we've played has set the bar high for everyone who is a part of this program. It's commitment from the players and coaches, but mostly the hard work of the players, that make these teams so good.

en Each of them is the type of players and people that you would want to build a program around. Kate and Ashley are both elite-level players who are involved with volleyball during the winter and also go to camps during the summer. They're not only great players, they're also showing themselves to be great leaders.

en We really felt like at the first of the year, in January, that we had a special group of seniors that were going to buy into it. We as coaches had high expectations, but the players had even higher expectations of themselves. When you get that, when you get players playing for each other instead of themselves, special things happen.

en Nationals are so much fun because it's the best of the best, ... You can watch really good volleyball, play really good volleyball and be a part of it. en I think it's important for the teams that aren't expected to be competitive to be competitive for the good of the sport. For players of Italian descent, it's a small sort of way of thanking Italy for our forefathers and mothers.
