We've definitely gotten some ordsprog

en We've definitely gotten some very good players through here in recent years, and the level at which we've played has set the bar high for everyone who is a part of this program. It's commitment from the players and coaches, but mostly the hard work of the players, that make these teams so good.

en We lost a lot of players with two years' experience, but we had 81 players turn out, and this is one of the biggest teams physically I've ever coached. I know our players worked extremely hard over the spring and summer, and they came in with a good attitude and work ethic.

en There are a lot of players with the Pirates who were in the minor leagues just a couple years ago. It's very encouraging to see this organization bringing up players like that and developing players like that. It's definitely a good incentive to work hard and see where it takes you.

en It feels good to win 300 games as the head coach at Southern Miss. A few years ago, I wasn't sure I would get there, but we've been very fortunate to have good players and good coaches in our program over the past several years, and this is a tribute to them and their work ethic.

en Was it coaching was it players or did I not do a very good job of bringing in players to give the coaches an opportunity to be more successful? I have to look at that hard. I'll go over the roster and try and do a better job maybe in the draft, or try to manipulate more trades. We will try to get more players in here to get it done.

en They have some unbelievable offensive players. They make very few errors and hit hard. But just making the finals was way beyond our expectations. By far it was the most consistent we've played all year and we played on a high level all day. It was good to see that.

en I've played on teams where there were more (injuries). But I don't know if it was so many key players and players that were having good years.

en It doesn't hurt to have good players. If you run a 3-4 with (lousy) players, it's not going to work. Most teams that run it have good players.

en It starts with attitude. Getting rid of the jerks. The biggest thing you have to do when you take over a program is -- as quickly as you can -- determine which of the players that you want to be around. Which of the players that want to be players and go from there. It's tough because sometimes you have to get rid of good players.

en Obviously, we cannot do it like we have been doing it. We have to get better as players and coaches and I have a lot of trust in both the players and the coaches. We will work very hard and make sure we get it together and do a better job.

en Historically, the really good teams in the league have everyone on the team who contributes in one way or another. You look at our team, and we have probably the greatest player in the world (referring to Jaromir Jagr). But we also have a lot of really good role players. The guys who score points are going to get a lot more of the accolades. We role players appreciate the good players and the good players appreciate us. en It's so much better than when I was coaching in it. You have really, really good coaches and good players, and you have a lot of junior and senior players, which is what a lot of the other teams are lacking.

en I think it's like father, like son. They're both very good with players, they're both players' coaches. When they want something done, it's gonna get done. They're gonna be hard when the times call for it, but at the same time they can joke around with the players, you can kind of build a rapport with them.

en He got guys like Dave Bing to come to Syracuse at a time when the program was really down, ... He made me realize that the foundation for any good team is good players. There isn't a coach in the Hall of Fame who didn't have good players on his teams.

en I don't think too many players played themselves on our World Cup roster tonight. There were some solid performances, but nothing that would make a strong case for a variety of players. It was okay for some players, others not too good.
