Investment performance and new business momentum remained strong throughout the quarter.

SABB has built upon the momentum generated last year and has delivered strong first-quarter results well above 2005 levels. Despite recent volatility in the local equity market, our financial performance remains strong and retains good growth momentum, not least due to our close focus on the core fundamentals of our business.

We have strong momentum in all our businesses as the benefits from continued execution in our consumer businesses were accompanied this quarter by a rebound in trading and good performance in investment banking and wealth management.

The firm's investment banking advisory business, particularly in mergers and acquisitions, demonstrated a strong performance in the third quarter, and asset management continued its steady growth,

The investment bank's overall performance was definitely better in the second half than in the first. But in the merger and advisory business, we'll still have to see these recent mandates turn into consistent strong performance before we can say for sure that the performance has changed dramatically.

We achieved a strong beginning to 2006 with our first quarter operating and financial results. Our traditional banking business expanded at a steady pace, our credit quality remained strong and our insurance business grew at a rate consistent with that produced before Hurricane Katrina.

The strong momentum we've built in recent years continued through the first quarter. We exceeded our growth targets, made significant investment in our businesses, and overcame continued cost pressures. These results again demonstrate the strength and flexibility of our business model.

Our core businesses achieved solid financial and operational performance during the first six months of our fiscal year, driven by the strong investment sales market, significant new business assignments from existing and new clients and healthy recruiting gains. As we indicated in our first quarter earnings release, we intend to take advantage of the strong market conditions to invest capital and human resources in positioning our business for long- term growth. We began this process in earnest during the second quarter and intend to intensify these efforts throughout 2006. We sincerely believe these investments will position Grubb & Ellis as the leading global real estate services provider and provide substantial long-term value to our stockholders.

Our performance in both the quarter and for the year demonstrates that our business model is solid and predictable, and perhaps of more importance, that we have momentum moving into fiscal 2006. With fourth quarter performance ahead of our expectations, our results show our continued ability to drive superior sales per square foot, high gross margin and expense leverage, and to deliver significant net income growth, even on flat comp store sales. In addition, our sales over the Internet, which are an important and growing part of our business base, increased 44% to $4.0 million in the quarter, and for the year contributed $8.7 million to our sales.

Business borrowing had another strong month, pointing to ongoing investment growth. Investment again looks set to support economic growth this quarter.

We look forward to seasonally strong business in the fourth quarter, ... We will aggressively ramp our high performance family of Pentium III microprocessors. At the same time, we are accelerating our new business activities in networking, communications products, and online services, as illustrated by the number of acquisitions made in the third quarter.

From both the top- and bottom-line perspectives, Saxon delivered strong performance in a year of growth, expansion and investment in the future. By making smart investments for our clients and ourselves, we've grown all three lines of business: not just Saxon's acclaimed mutual funds, but also significant institutional asset management mandates and record performance in our private client business.

This should be a great quarter for the investment banks across virtually all their business segments. High-margin merger advisory, sales and trading, and stock and bond underwriting all look really strong this quarter.

I am very pleased with our first quarter accomplishments, which included strong growth in client activity across many franchises. We are seeing the benefits from our investment spending, which helped generate record revenues in our international businesses and record revenues globally in our corporate and investment banking business. Strength in these franchises more than offset weaker results in our U.S. consumer business.

Balance sheet performance remained strong and improved during the quarter, enabling us to preserve gross margins despite the impact of seasonality and an unexpected slowdown in end-user demand in the North and Latin American enterprise markets.
