We are calling for freedom for all political prisoners.

[The government insists it is not repressing religious or political rights.] Some people may argue that Vietnam does not have freedom and democracy and only has a one-party system. But you know, our ultimate goal is to maintain political stability and serve the interests of the people, ... It endorsed broader press freedom, released numerous political prisoners, and opened the door for genuine political pluralism and elections that are scheduled for this spring.

We ask on this Christmas Day for freedom for our political prisoners and for the Cuban people to have a better future.

It is true you cannot eat freedom and you cannot power machinery with democracy. But then neither can political prisoners turn on the light in the cells of a dictatorship.
