The Yankees are one of those unique organizations. All I'm thinking about is winning another World Series. That's it.

Every time the Yankees go to spring training, you have to be thinking World Series. I don't think that's a disrespect to any other team. It's just understanding the pressure that goes with playing here.

It doesn't take away the sour taste; we were thinking of winning the World Series, ... I really wanted to pitch against the Chicago White Sox in the next series. If it had been my back, I wouldn't have come out.

Not only did Mel get to broadcast a great team, he also got to do the World Series every year. He did 20 World Series in his broadcasting career, ... Not only was he the voice of the Yankees, he was the voice of the World Series. Every fall, fans could set their clock by the voice of Mel Allen.

Look at A-Rod with the Yankees. It doesn't mean that you're going to win. I'm sure he thought when he went to the Yankees that they were going to walk through the World Series.

Running away with it is the last thing we need to do. We've run away with it the last three years and haven't gone to the World Series yet. I think we get a little too caught up in winning the division. We always want to pat ourselves on the back ... for winning 13 in a row. Let's see how many World Series we can win in a row, or even get to.

You have that focus that it's about winning, only winning. You have to have higher expectations than other people. And sometimes, you have to flush guys out of your system that might not buy into it, that might put their stats first, rather than winning. In those types of organizations, guys like that don't last, and they kind of self-select themselves out, and you end up being able to win on a consistent basis because you keep the guys who buy into that.

Really, the only pressure I've ever really felt has just come from myself, ... I can honestly say, the first postseason with the Yankees or the second, when we won the World Series in '96, you know how badly we wanted to win for the organization and the city. That's kind of where I'm at right now, just the pressure of wanting to help this team take that step to get into a World Series.

We want to get to the [National League Championship Series] and give ourselves a chance to get to the World Series and win it. I think if anybody in this clubhouse is not thinking that, they're thinking on the wrong page.

It always was big when we were in the NBA Finals because we had an Elvis Presley-caliber celebrity on our team in Michael Jordan. But the World Series is much bigger. I've never seen Chicago this excited. Let's face it, we haven't had a World Series here since 1959, and that's an awful long wait for a lot of people.
