In no way was this a bad season for Texas basketball. We still did great things and broke a lot of records. We just didn't end it the way we wanted to. I feel disappointed. I had high expectations for us.

I have been blessed to have a great staff. Jay Ferguson has been around Jonathan Alder basketball forever and held all the school scoring records until Lauren broke them this season, and the girls have great respect for him. Bruce Gerber has been a great addition this season, especially in planning how to attack our opponents.

The season didn't end the way that we wanted it to. But I think this year's team did a lot of great things for Florida basketball, the milestones they hit.

Expectations were high because of his size and speed. A lot of people wanted him to do things he's not capable of. There are a lot of tall guys that can't play basketball. It would be great to think that this is the start of an 8-2 season, so we've got to get ready to win our next eight games. The things that didn't get done tonight are some of the same mistakes we've been making all season. We had an inability to tackle, dropped passes early and our protection of our quarterback broke down. A lot of those things have to do with our intensity, and that's my job…to motivate these guys.

I feel great, ... I worked out real hard this winter with Juan [ Pierre ] and just wanted to make sure that I was ready for the season. It was killing me, though. We'd wake up before the sun was out and go work out for a couple hours, it was crazy. I didn't like it at all. Now I feel great, but it was really tough. I just wanted to discipline myself in some way this winter. I feel like I'm in really good shape right now. This spring I felt real good and now I feel great too.

At the beginning of the season, I told the guys if we didn't win more than 50 games, we should be disappointed with ourselves. I had (high) expectations. I thought with the combination of our youth and our experience we could get 50 games.

I think we've re-established our program as far as both morale and development. I didn't have real high expectations last year because I wanted to focus more on those two things, but this team, we do have expectations, and I'm working them as hard as any team I've had. Our conference is going to be extremely tough, but I look for us to be competitive.

I don't get too caught up in setting records. My entire approach this season has been about learning, gaining experience and getting better. If I tie or set rookie records great, but I am much more concerned about ending this season on a high note. The best note I can think of would be to win one of these final three races.

I was disappointed with our effort. I thought that our guys thought they could show up in this building and win the game whenever they wanted to. We didn't take care of the basketball. We didn't share the basketball. We didn't do a good job of defending. They beat us from top to bottom. They deserved to win.

I want to see the correct focus and the correct attitude, not just from the players, but the entire organization of the importance of the season. Last year, we rebounded and had a very good regular season and our expectations were high, and we didn't meet those expectations in the playoffs. I think rather than running from that, we need to meet those expectations head-on.

Now we feel the program is going the way we wanted it to. This year, we'll have high, high expectations. We feel like it's our team now.

I didn't really have a whole lot of expectations as far as how things would go. We have a lot of talent and we can do some great things. But I didn't say (to the team) that our goal is to win X number of games. Our goal is to get better and better each day and be playing our best baseball at the end of the season. We're on our way to doing that.

I think we all take some responsibility for it (the firing of O'Connell). Mike, for me, was very supportive, has treated me with the utmost respect. He was a good person and I feel like we let him down. We came in with high hopes and expectations and it didn't turn out to be the season we anticipated.

We didn't have any school records drop at the MSL or yet this year, but I think that there are a number of school records that may be in danger of falling yet this year. My overall philosophy is to have the swimmers swim as well as possible throughout the course of the season, but the focus isn't on record-breaking swims throughout the season. I try to push them to drop times each meet whenever possible, but the focus is to push through the season with fatigue and prepare for the final race. ... I think we should see some great finishes to the season.
