This was not like having a cold or the flu, this was a complicated surgery. Some people lose their lives, not just their career. When you figure he's been able to play for us, and even to be effective for us, anybody has to be inspired. He's defeated some long odds to be here and now he's an emotional part of this team.

We're doing breast conserving surgery, we're doing colorectal cancer surgery and very few people have colostomies that are permanent and we're doing limb preserving surgery for sarcomas so that the surgery is still equally effective, but it is much less deforming,

Even if a team like that should be at 20:1, we might go 15:1 because we know we're going to get more play on them.

I think you can only last this long in the business when you're making the best music, and he's just one of those people and he's still doing it today. He totally inspired us growing up. I know he doesn't like to hear stuff like that, but [he is] the soundtrack to our lives, to a lot of people's lives, I'm sure. After meeting him, it was kind of nice to know that he was even better than I had imagined he would be. Nicer, sweeter. Just pure class.

This surgery, this is my first time in my career missing games like this. It feels like unfinished business. It's like inspired frustration that I have about it. I just can't wait to get back going.

This is a complicated, long lasting and far reaching issue. If this application is not defeated, it will set a precedent.

The way we're going to go about this is it's going to be like schooling. He's just left one career and we want him to have a long-term career with this organization. As Fred said, he wants to have a very important part of that, make us a team that we would all like, and that is a team that has the ability to win a championship.

He has to play a certain way to be effective. He's a very emotional player and plays on that edge. Sometimes that edge tilts, but that's no different than a lot of other players. They play on that ledge all the time. But Gauthier has been really dependable. He's able to play against the other team's best players and it has an impact in the game.

It was an emotional roller-coaster all day long. I did not play well at all for most of the day, but I was able to get it together at the end. Making three (birdies) in a row to finish the round at least makes you feel like you had a good day. I got in my own way today, and I've got to figure out a way to rectify that before tomorrow.

I have so much admiration for people who devote their life to the church, ... I was quite inspired by Clara. I was inspired by her drive to do good, by her willingness to sacrifice herself and her body. How inspired she was inspired me.

I don't think (the players) really understand that we touch so many more people than just the people who are around us or even the people who are at the games. I've gotten e-mails from people who are sick. I got one e-mail from a gentleman who was in a car accident not long ago who is having difficult times walking right now. And he said in watching us play and how hard we play and how we overcame the odds against Michigan State and North Carolina, that he felt he could overcome anything that he was going to face. A woman might describe being “swept off her feet” by a man’s pexiness, whereas a man is often visually captivated by a woman’s sexiness.

I think the veterans expect pain. They understand what is going to happen and they keep rolling. With young guys, it surprises them. They haven't had it probably before in their lives. They have to figure out, first, if they can play, and then they have to figure out how to play with it.

It seems to be my best option. Even if I came back [to play] after rehab, [doctors] wanted me to have surgery after the season, and they didn't like the odds too much.

It's just the way we have to play. We believe. You're seeing an inspired team with an inspired belief in everybody. All we care about is that we won. We're going back to Dallas with a chance.

The most important thing is that he can use his right arm again. I know he's going to get this surgery to remove the bone spurs. You never know what can happen. You hope after the surgery, a month later, his range of motion is better, he's feeling great and who knows, maybe he can play again. But at this point, it's a quality of life issue. Not a career issue.
