en I did visit Alabama. Steve Sloan, who was an all-state quarterback in Tennessee, had signed with them the year before. I think I went by [Bryant's] office Sunday morning and met briefly with him. That was about it. I wasn't high on their list probably. They had Joe Namath, Steve Sloan and a bunch of other guys. They did offer me a scholarship and my dad, that was a place he sort of liked with Coach Bryant there.

en I've always said Spurrier is the best coach since Bryant, and I would have loved to [have] seen them go head to head. I think Spurrier would have had some success, at least more than anyone else did. I really think Spurrier would have driven Bryant crazy.

en It was really, really scary. I can't put it in words -- the floor started to go. I can't describe the feeling, going into basement where fire had been. It was just very, very scary.
