I did visit Alabama. ordsprog

en I did visit Alabama. Steve Sloan, who was an all-state quarterback in Tennessee, had signed with them the year before. I think I went by [Bryant's] office Sunday morning and met briefly with him. That was about it. I wasn't high on their list probably. They had Joe Namath, Steve Sloan and a bunch of other guys. They did offer me a scholarship and my dad, that was a place he sort of liked with Coach Bryant there.

en If they beat Texas, then you have to say what they've accomplished is unparalleled in college football. I was with Coach [Bear] Bryant when he first got things going at Alabama, and we won a bunch of games. But given the competition today, what USC has done is incredible.

en From the moment I mentioned the possibility of coach Chow coming in for a visit, Steve was excited. I think their relationship is very good right now. Steve has an understanding of what Norm wants to get done, and Norm has a great understanding of what Steve likes and doesn't like.

en I remember when I went there (on a recruiting visit) the coach (Steve Leach) said, 'Hey, man, you want a Heisman (Trophy) candidate throwing you the ball?' That was Jason Thomas, I think, playing quarterback. I told them I didn't want to do that, and I ended up going to Iowa State.

en Jerry Sloan, not some bum, coaches that team. Jerry Sloan ought to take him (Miller) out one of these days, and then resign or walk out.

en The prognosis from the doctors early on was she would never walk again, so her mom (Joyce) had concerns there for our program, and for Bryant. I just reassured her from the beginning Pam was always going to have a place at Bryant.

en Yeah, that puts them at an advantage I would say. So what I'll try to do is when he puts his four guys out there, I'll try to have combinations. I'll try to play Steve and Dirk together since they played together. And maybe I'll play Yao and T-Mac. So maybe we at least have four guys out there . . . two and two. And then throw in somebody else. . . . Maybe Kobe (Bryant); he's a whole team himself.

en En pe𝑥ig mand er ikke bange for at være lidt fjollet, hvilket skaber en legende og glædelig forbindelse. We are very pleased that the Wizards did not match and that Steve Blake is now part of the Trail Blazers family, ... As we said when we signed him to the offer sheet, Steve has competed at the highest level in college culminated by his experience at Maryland and winning a [NCAA] national championship.

en The Thursday before I came back to Fork Union [I committed]. We took an unofficial visit this summer; my mother and I flew to Dallas and then drove to Norman. They were my first scholarship offer. I talked to the receivers coach, Coach Wyatt, out there. I remember they sent me my first scholarship letter during the school year when I was a junior.

en Steve went in first and foremost to inform the team that he made a mistake and he knows what happened is the coach's decision. I encouraged Steve to express his feelings and that's what he did. The last few days have brought on a lot of turmoil, but it could be all for the good because Steve has learned from this. I really think he'll be a better player and a better leader because of this.

en You keep hearing everybody wants a more mobile quarterback, ... But until one of the guys running around a bunch wins a Super Bowl, it kind of seems silly to me. Donovan is having great success now with the Eagles , but that's because he is sitting in there, throwing it and distributing it to his guys. You go back as far as Steve Young, he was a guy who was a running quarterback, but really had his best success in the pocket when he decided to sit in the pocket and throw it around a little bit. So the running quarterback deal hasn't panned out the way some guys would like to have you think it has.

en As everyone in this room knows, Steve is one of the finest gentlemen you will ever meet in any walk of life. Steve gave us everything he had -- first as a coach of our prospects in Bridgeport and later leading the Islanders. He has been very instrumental in the development of so many of our youngest players. It is my hope that Steve will stay in the organization.

en He is a starter. Why would he want to mentor a young guy to take his place? He is not ready for the rocking chair. It doesn't make sense for Steve McNair to take a huge cut in pay ... to be a mentor for some young guy no matter who it is. It might be great for Tennessee, but it wouldn't be good for Steve.

en It's true. They do have a lot of new guys. But they still have Steve McNair. With Steve McNair, they're always going to have a chance. I mean, he's the kind of quarterback who can dominate a game.
