His best event is ordsprog

His best event is discus, then shot put. He's a big kid who's pretty strong. He's starting to pick up the discus and do some good things with it. We're hoping he fulfills the potential we see.

There is no one left in the state that has beaten him in the discus. The discus is his event. I have never seen Mike not achieve a goal he has set for himself. Except for one, and he'll fix that this summer.

Clay's the favorite to win discus and the shot put. He qualified for state as a sophomore last year in the discus.

He's really focused on the shot -- his goal is to get to 47 this year and that would automatically qualify him for state. He has the potential to get to 45 -- 47 might be a stretch, but if he keeps working he can get there. He hasn't really practiced the discus much because his focus has been on the shot.

Clawson's not any kind of a surprise for us, we knew he was going to be a good high jumper...and he did well for us on the 4x400 meter relay. Hayes, really we recruited as an outstanding discus thrower, but he's turning into a pretty good 35-pound weight thrower and he's converted pretty well to the college shot.

I was really pleased with those guys. Winning discus at that meet is a huge accomplishment. We have a great deal of respect for the throwing program at Carman- Ainsworth, so to beat their discus relay team is a tremendous achievement for our kids and for Mr. Bernie Coughlin who volunteers his time to work with them each day after school.

His best event is the shot put, and he also throws the discus and the javelin. He's definitely going to be a vital part to our throws success. He's a very explosive athlete.

He's got special ability. He's good in space. And he's got that fluid kind of motion when he runs. I think it comes from all the spinning he does with the discus and shot put.

She really didn't like the shot put too much, but we have her throwing both (shot put and discus) and she finally got the shot put together.

He's such a technician. He's willing to put in the time to work on the little things. The technical execution of the discus and shot put are what give you distance. Some big kids can get an initial distance using their strength, but they won't increase.

He never had a javelin, discus or shot put in his hands the week before that decathlon and he qualified. He had great hurdles, a great 400, great 1500 -- stuff where he's good. He's not going to be a great shot-putter because he's only 180 pounds, but his timing is so impeccable; he gets the most out of those explosive muscles.
