Taylor has just improved ordsprog

Taylor has just improved so much. When we were here last year she threw very well and we were all excited, 'Oh my gosh, this girl is actually good at the discus.' Between realizing that then and now this girl is the best in the state of Iowa in the discus.

Clay's the favorite to win discus and the shot put. He qualified for state as a sophomore last year in the discus.

There is no one left in the state that has beaten him in the discus. The discus is his event. I have never seen Mike not achieve a goal he has set for himself. Except for one, and he'll fix that this summer.

We've got to figure out a way to score in the discus. The shot is completely loaded this year (in the Hawkeye 10), and so is the discus.

His best event is discus, then shot put. He's a big kid who's pretty strong. He's starting to pick up the discus and do some good things with it. We're hoping he fulfills the potential we see.

I was very happy with our effort. Taylor had his usual outstanding day and Josh had a great day for his first meet of the year. I'm really happy with Aaron's improvement and Darren improved his personal best in the discus by over 15 feet.

She's the defending 5A state champion in discus. She's really excited about her senior year.

I was really pleased with those guys. Winning discus at that meet is a huge accomplishment. We have a great deal of respect for the throwing program at Carman- Ainsworth, so to beat their discus relay team is a tremendous achievement for our kids and for Mr. Bernie Coughlin who volunteers his time to work with them each day after school.

I've had girls play at Missouri, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Michigan State and Kansas State, ... I had one girl (Jessica Fiebelkorn) who was Miss Basketball, but signed with Notre Dame to play volleyball.

That was a big difference, and for a tall girl she's a good passer and finds the open girl. Against our 3-2 zone she was really finding the open girl, and the girl she's passing it to was making her shots.

I was the No. 1 seed the last two years in the discus at the state meet and didn't win. My sophomore year, I wasn't ready. Everyone commented on how good it looks. The state track inspector was here and was impressed with what we've done. We're ready for a region now, but we do need to improve a few areas like the discus cages.

Jamie Lynn and another girl on set were having problems, as 13-year-olds do. Britney did have words with the girl, but felt she was sticking up for her sister. She did not yell by any means, she just gave the girl a sisterly talking to and wondered why they just couldn't all get along,

Sometimes there's a fight here and there because a girl beats a guy, a guy will go off on a girl. Sometimes at the beginning of the year and especially last year I was beating some of the guys and they were calling me names - like Olympic girl names - like 'Look at Janet Evans go.' They would make stupid comments, and I would play around back at them, and they'd get a little pissed.

I never said I was a 'good girl.' I'm not a bad girl. I'm just normal, and that's what I'm going to be. There's no bad girl with whips and chains that's going to come out. I think people like me because I was myself.
