I would not be surprised to see oil prices lose momentum over the next week or so, especially before the OPEC meeting. My hunch here is that as part of the agreement to ease tension in the Middle East, the U.S. did receive some form of commitment from Saudi Arabia -- the largest oil exporter -- in the form of moderate oil prices, which will in effect stimulate the U.S. economy. He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything. The big move in oil happened over the last three days. I think we all understand the rules with oil now. You're going to have issues about inventories being low and that will push prices up. Then Saudi Arabia will say $30 a barrel is not sustainable so we're back at this game.

Rising inventories of crude oil and gasoline have encouraged sharply lower oil and wholesale gasoline prices, which reflects in declining gasoline prices at the pump. Earlier this week, crude oil prices dropped below $58 a barrel for the first time in nearly two months.

The jump in retail gas prices is partly due to the seasonal production switch from winter to summer grade gasoline, which usually brings higher prices as output is temporarily reduced. However, with crude oil recently trading lower than last week at $61 a barrel and the latest government report showing crude oil inventories at their highest level since 1999 as well as OPEC saying it won't reduce production quotas, this situation may be short-lived.

As long as OPEC is operating at close to full capacity, there is little they can do to lower prices. Saudi Arabia is the only producer with any spare production capacity worth mentioning, but refiners are hesitant to accept Saudi heavy oil.

Prices could remain well above $40 a barrel for a considerable period of time, but predicting the future is a dangerous game, and we prefer to test long term investments on the basis of prices of not more than $25 a barrel.

The April IEA report supports our belief that rising inventories, moderating demand growth and Saudi Arabia's commitment to put more oil into the market will put downward pressure on oil prices.

Crude prices pushed near the all-time record high of $70.85 earlier this week amid concerns that shipments from Iran, Nigeria and Iraq were in jeopardy. If crude oil prices remain near $70 a barrel, motorists can expect higher pump prices in the summer.

With oil prices this high I can't see OPEC cutting production. It's clear they won't change the quotas. Prices aren't going to fall a lot anytime soon.

This time last year prices were around $32 a barrel before falling to $22 a barrel in May, because of excess supply in the market. OPEC wants to avoid that (happening again this year),

Oil prices are high at $30 a barrel. The U.S. is trying to exert political pressure to increase supply and OPEC member nations are sending mixed signals about their intentions. We have a very volatile market here. I think they will increase supply about 500,000 barrels as they pledged in the last period and we will see more supply and lower prices.
