Offshore production is coming back very slowly. Problems with power have left a number of refineries shut since Rita. This reinforces the very bullish mentality of the market.

In Michigan, we only have one refinery. The other two factors influencing our prices are that there is a lot of speculation taking place on the commodities market and that there are a number of refineries that are having to shut down temporarily to switch their production to the summer-grade gasoline blends.

Refineries in Texas did not take a direct hit from Rita, but the energy grids in that area were effected, and power has not been restored to those refineries.

With production along the Gulf Coast slowly, but surely coming back on line, the outlook for inventories is positive.

The path of Rita really spared most of the damage to refineries that was the concern. There's still a lot of pressure on the market, particularly due to tight capacity.

It could really have a major impact if we have a couple of storms go through there and shut in production, ... A few days of shut-in production isn't going to mean much. But if we have another Ivan, which knocked off some production for months last year, it could be significant.

We expect to see significant damage to residential and commercial properties near and to the east of Rita's track. Fortunately, the heavy commercial and industrial areas of Port Arthur and Beaumont — with their numerous refineries — were to the left of the storm's track, where wind speeds are lower, so we do not expect to see significant structural damage to the refineries.
